Argentine Idioms.

nikad is obviously right about merchandise. nuevo o joya nunca taxi? what? many idioms here i never heard before but that one doesn't even make grammatical sense? joya nunca taxi? WTF?

This one comes from the classified ads where minimum words were used to describe offered item. In this case meaning the car was new (joya) and had never been used/abused as a taxi. Therefore "joya nunca taxi"

Where did the term merca originate?

it most likely is short for " mercaderia " not naming the substance, the " merchandise "

Funny this should come up, but just the other day I heard "merca" comes from Merck - the drug company.
I don't know the true answer, mercaderia makes more sense... but back in the day cocaine was used in medicine (Coke, for example) and Merck was the first importer.

I think both are used ( well I say perro )

speaking of which:

Contento como perro con dos colas ( as happy as it can be )
Speaking of perro.....serio como perro en bote or the classic desubicao como caballo arriba 'el techo
