Hey everyone, I'm a 30 year old guy from the midwest maybe going to be coming to BA for a long-term work project as soon as a few weeks from now. I first visited for work in June and wanted to come back almost instantly, so in the spirit of usually getting let down, I thought I'd start doing a little research before things were totally official, despite all assurances. I've been diligently working on my nonexistent-until-recently spanish and hoping to pick up a new language in the process.

I've got a million questions (mostly about all the bureaucracy stuff that sounds pretty complex), so I was happy to find this site and am looking forward to digging through all the info and advice before asking any of them :) I'm probably trying to stay in Palermo mostly because my office is there and I've always wanted to be able to walk to work, and my suburban lifestyle hasn't really allowed it, and welcome any tips on that.

So yeah, just wanted to introduce myself and hope to meet some interesting people.

Welcome! Definitely a good idea to live near your work if it's a possibility. Most people who are living within capital federal commute around an hour to get to work. Being able to walk will save you a lot of time and stress so go for it!

Follow up in case anyone cares -- arriving this Tuesday for a just under 90 day stint which could turn into a year. I've got a place close to the office in Palermo Hollywood, so I finally get to walk to work, at least for a while. Looking forward to my first extended stint in another country, even after reading all the posts about how much everyone can't stand being there :)

yep, complaining is this group's middle name :p
u'll be fine, this is a lovely city at the end of the day, just gotta look the bright side!

If it's any consolation, 3 months is well within the honeymoon period. ;) You should be okay.

Good luck :)

No, you're gonna love it, don't worry!! Awesome neighborhood and lifestyle, I'm personally excited for you.

Come on down you'll be fine...
Here's a link to BA subway system...

I have one caveat for you.

Last year I meat an American guy who came here for four month...

and he stayed for four years. He finally went back after a juicy LA job offer.

I'm really excited about it, despite all the complaints I've read. The way I look at it, nowhere is perfect, and every situation is as good as what you make out of it. I will miss some of the convenience of America, but like I said in another thread, I'm taking the opportunity to enjoy more of life without all of the "stuff" that we are so obsessed with here in the states. And how else do we grow without a bit of a challenge! :)
