Why would FIFA want to fix a match so Argentina can win?

Because Argentina, believe it or not, has a lot of weight in FIFA. Recently the FIFA extended the number of world Champions with 2 new national teams, France in 1998 and Spain in 2010. Apart from that, the world champions are always the same countries, the exact same teams that always win. So it like rotates, and Argentina has been waiting a lot to its turn. Why Arg and not, lets say, Germany? Various reasons, firrst, because is in South America, then, because the order is first Argentina and then Germany, as it happened in the 80s: Italy 1982, Argentina 1986 and then Germany 1990. So pretty much the next WC Germany will win it.
Argentina, because of its rich history on football, has a lot of weight in FIFA. The key to understand why it is fixated is to think that players, are not what make a team play well, but the exact opposite, as if Messi is not good and that makes Barcelona a good team, but is Barcelona that makes Messi play well. Clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid became multinational corporations, with a billion euros budget, they are VERY important. So I dare to think their players as their products, as if Messi is an invention of this corporation.

Besides, lets think about some things.

You have a 20 year old buddy from a poor country with a poor family background, and that guy has more power than some of the sheiks that invest 500 million euros in one time? Do you know how important for FIFA is to have these investors? Do you think their investments are subjected at if the ball hits the post or not? houndreds of millions of euros depending on what a player does or if the ball hits the post or if a referee dont see a fault? a poor fellow that barely knows how to read more power than Blatter, than all the huge multimillionaire interestes created around futbol? That does not fit with the world we are living in!!

You take paranoid to a whole new level dude. I guess you are going to put all your savings on Argentina winning the world cup then since it's a forgone conclusion??

Comment from retired Brazilian player Ronaldo "Fenomeno" about the yesterday's game against Germany:

"Not even when I was in a love motel with 3 she-males, I saw this many balls go in so quickly".

The best ending for this tale would be an Argentine victory inside Maracana. Having Dilma handing the trophy to the Argentine national team inside Maracana would doom her political career FOREVER. If we can only be this lucky.

It would also continue to distract Argentines from the disaster that their own government is. I honestly couldn't care who wins if anybody does - most soccer games are de facto ties anyway - but Germany v. Holland would probably be the least unacceptable result (given that nothing good ever comes out of soccer).

Sorry Matias, but this is just delusions of grandeur. FIFA only cares about money, most of which comes from Europe. So, if your paranoid fantasies were true, then they would "bestow" to cup to a European team. That's where the money is. NOT Argentina. Or for that matter, the US, which for FIFA is an as yet untapped goldmine of licensing and advertising.

Also, your last paragraph doesn't make any sense. Players like Messi are millionaires only because their bosses make enough money to pay them and the rest of the team. Just because you see Messi's face on the billboards don't be fooled into thinking that he is the one in control.

FIFA, though, may be looking to get into the Argentine bond market (likely to be far more lucrative than anything soccer-related they will find in the States).
