Hey guys,

Wondering if there are any places where one can rent a bike for a day (or a few). I'm thinking that could be a good way to scour the villages as I look for flats. Getting the lay of the land, etc. Thanks so much for your help!

Here's one co-founded by my wife's cousin. There are others depending on your neighborhood.

The city offers free bicycle use. Sign up and get a VOS card to use at the bike stations.

I got my eco-bici card over 2 years ago, with just a US passport. I did have to go and pick it up an my comuna office, and wait for my turno, but no DNI. The problem with the city bikes, though, is that you only get an hour. And there are often no bikes at the station nearest you- so sometimes you would have to take a collectivo to get a bike, and then watch the clock and plan where you are going to return it.

Hmm, Not so easy and not enough time to go more than a few blocks then. I was hoping to have a day (or more) to scour some of the neighborhoods to get the lay of the land. Thanks, Ries. Great input.

While it's true you only get the eco-bici for an hour you can use the service as often as you like. In theory you can go from bici-station to station all day. We had fun a few years ago mapping out these routes around CABA. it's really set up for commuting but we never found a station completely without bikes. Good luck and have fun!
