Brazil Visa - New Questions

I have searched the site but haven't found the answers to these two questions.

I'm from the US and will be traveling to Brazil with my Portino friends in their car. How would I get around the airline ticket and hotel reservationrequirements?

From previous posts it seems that Brazil gives out visas of various lengths. How would I insure that I get the 10 year type?

I was just at the Consulate to get my visa. We are driving into the country as well, and it wasn't a problem at all, I just told them we're driving and they said OK. I had a printout of the hostel reservation and they never even asked for it or looked at it. The most important items seemed to be the bank statement and credit card.

This is the second time I've had to go through the process, because I was only given a 90-day visa the first time and it has since expired. They told me it's not possible for me to get the 10-year one as long as I'm doing the process in Argentina, but...that's definitely not true. The first time I went through the process it was both my husband and I. We're both US citizens with US passport and Argentine DNI's, we submitted all of the same info, and he got a 10-year visa and I got a 90-day one. The logic is beyond my grasp.

Is it possible they discriminate on sex to discourage people giving birth there?? (which would in turn fast track to citizenship, no?)

This was not the case for me. I also entered the country by land (through Uruguay), and was leaving by plane. I was told I needed proof of leaving the country. I brought the one way flight from Rio to Buenos Aires to the consulate here, and I had to argue with them about it being sufficient, even though when I went the first time they said I just needed proof of exit, not entrance. They did accept it at the end.

How long a visa did you get? US citizen? AR resident?

Mine was the 90 days tourist visa, the 10 year one I'm sure they would be more thorough. I'm from the US.

To get a 10 year visa, you need to do the following:

1. Request the visa from inside the United States
2. Have a DNI and show it to them. They won't grant non residents of Argentina more than a 90 day VISA unless you request the visa in your legal country of residence or where you have a passport. I almost only got a 90 day visa until i realized this.

When I did, they didn't look at my bank statement or credit card, but did look at my reservations. Hahahaha.
