Bringing Dollars from USA

Be very cautious with your money in transit. There have been many reports of TSA agents stealing cash from bags they are inspecting. Additionally,on a flight to EZE a woman stole money out of the purse of another passenger who was sleeping in the wee hours of the morning. Luckily another passenger observed & woke up the victim to point out the thief. There was a big tussle between the thief & victim and finally the victim retrieved her wallet from inside the bag of the thief. Don't take a sleeping pill on a flight if you are carrying a large amount of cash.

Even better --- wear it on you in the form a a money belt under your clothes. If you are worried about security you can put it on post-security.

The only thing I'd be worried about carrying $8K is possible theft... other than that, he should be fine.

In any case, if you're earning in pesos, you may want to see if you can convince your landlord to accept pesos at a decent rate for you both given the difficulty of acquiring dollars. Keeping your dollars for a later time might be worthwhile depending on how long you're going to be here and if you might possibly need the dollars for something else.

rental contracts in dollars are not legal, now nul and void. So why are you paying in dollars?
