In a few weeks, I'm planning to take a bus from Santiago to Mendoza on a Monday and an overnight bus from Mendoza to Retiro on a Thursday (night). Does anybody with experience know if it is necessary for me to buy bus tickets in advance or if it is safe for me to buy tickets at the respective stations the day of or the day before my trip? Also, if anybody has any recommendations for a specific bus company to use, that info would be appreciated as well.

Thanks.

Depends if it is near the December 8 to 11 Superweekend or Christmas.

December can get quite busy, best ot get at least 3 days in advance.

Having travelled on many bus lines onyour routes, the lines there are pretty much the same.

Wot mendozanow sed. I prefer Andesmar when I have the choice, not because of their faultless record but because on the two occasions when I was travelling and a situation developed, the professionalism of the crew remained high throughout. Having said that, someone else, in another thread, suggests their standards might be slipping.
