Would anyone notice if it went? Would their be a benefit to inbound immigration policies?
i notice that the villas are doubling in size, in Europe i would be very pro immigration, but in the context of exploding villas in Rosario and BA some solutions beyond half hearted infrastructure and security projects need to be implemented. Feels like the elephant in the room which no one dare tackle. Certainly there is now a service industry with low paid jobs which relies on migrant workers who in turn require low cost housing however there also is a perception that social benefit immigration exists.
I don't believe any real statistics exist, but certainly the open door mercosur policy is a contributory factor to the explosive growth of the villas.
Of course Argentina is an enormous country and as we know at various points in it's history a larger population was envisaged. However poor planning and poor economic development of the provinces means that all inbound migrants head for Rosario and BA's villas.
Bye Bye Mercosur, maybe, but immigration and the villas are here to stay.
