I have been perusing prices on uruguay.com for Jan/Feb 2011
For residents of US/Canada they want ~400$ per week with only basic insurance
For other residents (e.g. Europe, Australia) they want ~300$ with full insurance.
How come?
Shall I use my other passport? :)
Gracias, A

oops... forgot to type the website as uruguaycar.com

I am coming Jan/Feb to dance tango and make a week long dash for the beach...
If I like the place might come back one day for a longer stay )

Yeah, I'd just use your other passport then. $300 is a pretty good price. In August I paid $375 for 5 days through Budget - and that was with my Uruguayan cédula.

I phoned toll free# in the States given at uruguaycar.com
The guy said that the reason they give worse insurance coverage to Yankees and Canucks is that those guys have extra coverage on credit cards. ;-)
I can live with that but I am not putting up with paying 100$ more just for living in North America.
Have my other passport but only Canadian driving license...
Any ideas if they will accept this combination?
Otherwise, I will boycott them!

I just got official replay which confirmed predatory pricing and discrimination of US and Canadian citizens.

I am getting car from Thrifty, it is cheaper.

To other US and Canadian citizens

Boycott Europcar!

This is the rental company renting via uruguaycar.com
