[SIZE=-1]Opportunities like these almost never come around, but this one is real and ready for the right people. If you think you’d like to live in the golden sunshine of Mendoza Province, Argentina, and participate in the vibrant vineyard industry here, then this is a chance you cannot ignore. We are looking for a caretaker for a vine nursery operation. You would live on and tend a farm that plants and grows the young vines that are then sold to the area’s many thriving vineyards. We prefer a couple who are mature yet still capable of rigorous manual labor. The right candidates will be conversant in Spanish, self-motivating and love to have their hands in the dirt. You will be responsible for the upkeep of the property, general maintenance and also tending of the nursery. We will teach you how to plant, care for and harvest the vines. In return you will live rent-free in a fully furnished and equipped modern house. The caretakers will be responsible for paying the house utilities of approximately US $100 per month, including high-speed internet, and the care of two lovable and loyal dogs. A reliable vehicle will be essential, preferably a truck. In addition to the free rent, the caretakers will receive a share of the vine sale when sold the following spring. This position will be filled within one month, and all candidates are subject to a background check. The farm is ideally located on the scenic outskirts of General Alvear, a progressive agricultural center of 45,000. The city offers every modern convenience, including a hospital, universities, English language institutes, shops, health clubs and excellent restaurants. Construction is underway on an airport that will take travelers to Buenos Aires, and soon a superhighway will extend west across the Andes mountains to Chile. One-year student visas are available through a local English language institute, which offers courses in Spanish. This opportunity requires a one year commitment and lease, with possible extensions. If you have an adventurous spirit and a love of earth and sunshine, you belong on this patch of paradise.

If I understand this correctly, the caretakers get to live rent free but have to perform intense labor for a year, care for two dogs, pay the utilities, and provide their own transportation (paying for gas and maintenance as well), and then hope they actually receive "a share" of the sale proceeds. I wonder if the dog food is provided...or if they have to pay for that, too.

This might be a good idea in Napa Valley (there are courts in California that would enforce the terms of a contract), but in Argentina it might be a bit risky.

I think it would help if the OP could provide a history of others who have done this in prior years and made enough money to justify their labor, but how would anyone be able to know if such testimonials were accurate?.

I also think the reason "opportunities like these almost never come around" is because most people know better than to offer them in the first place.

Keep in mind that in Argentina when somebody does work for you, of any kind, unless they are an independent contractor (monotributo) and only do work for you for a specified job or 8 hours per week or less, than they can claim you are bound by LEY N° 20.744 which is the labor contract law, which can leave you open to very expensive litigation and monies due to the "employee" and penalties due to the state. You had better get some legal advice from an attorney that specializes in labor law before taking anybody on for this position.

All of the positions listed on the WOOF website offer free accomodations or campsite, board, and meals in exchange for work. None of them ask you to pay utilities or provide their own truck in exchange for the "opportunity" to do hard manual labor, learn the wine business, and possibly a cut of the profits. I personally would change the offer if you are seriously looking for someone to take you up on this and more so out of what's fair.

WOOF is a wonderful organization. Pay attention to their rules (they are fare).

Yeah, this sounds like a great opportunity, for the property owner that is. I just feel sorry for the poor guy who actually takes them up on it.

Have you looked at the photos in the link? I just did.:(

I find it a bit ironic that the website is escapeartist.com, but it's appropriate.;)

I'd also want to escape if I lived there (especially with an uncertain payday), but at least I'd take my loyal dogs with me.

I imagine advertising this "real opportunity" on scamartist.com would have just been too obvious.
