Carne Para Todos

syngirl - I didn't realise you could order by phone! May have to check that out. I am definitely going to stock up now that I know where one is. An asado for 10 people at 500g per person is around 50-60 pesos. Crazy.

Last time we went was I think March -- we're due to go soon. Prices will have jumped again but then we got 27kg of meat for about 550 pesos -- entrana, milanesa (I think it wass nalga, the butcher slices it for you there), costillitas de cerdo, matambrito de cerdo, chorizo (de carne y de cerdo), morcilla, pre-prepared supremas de pollo (ie breaded), colito de cuadril, bondiola, carne picada (especial) for making empanadas, tira de asado, oso buco, some patys (their own, not a brand), a couple of whole chickens, and I can't remember what else.

We always go out there in person, I think they give you better cuts and take off more fat. My husband still cleans up a lot of the meat when we get home and then we pack it in servings for 2 or 3 people and fill up the freezer, make up all the milanesas etc.

We split the meat between our house and my suegra's -- you can go there and buy in as large or small quantity as you like, we just don't like having to go very often.

When we go again I'll post my bill with the cuts and latest prices -- it should be sometime in the next few weeks since we're low on meat and have lots of family coming into town.

Also, the kind of thing we're talking about isn't really a "good" thing at all, so much as it's an "immediately beneficial/band aid" thing. That, coupled with the timing, is why it's so obviously vote-motivated.

Well, I have to take exception with you, twice.

Eating, or more specifically, buying food, isn't really a band-aid thing. Unless you believe it is.

Re: the timing. So is everything the president does in 2011 just to get votes? Should Kristina not do any work in 2011 because people will think it's just to get votes?

Its a bandaid when its announced as a solution for the problem of "high prices" (never inflation) but it covers less than 1% of the daily meat consumption of the population.
