Carrefour cancels sale of Argentinian unit and has growth plan

I avoid them as much as I can- they have the single slowest and most complicated checkout system in Argentina, and the computer takes 5 minutes to let me pay in cash. And usually, there are 4 people in line in front of me paying by phone, for 3000 pesos of candy, with a bad connection, and they take longer than cash...
I am a regular at small family owned stores, they know me, they are often cheaper, and, usually, have a better selection. My local carrefours usually only have beer made by AMBEV/Quilmes, and drinks made by Coca Cola. Even the water and fruit juices are coke products.

I don't typically shop at the Carrefour in my city (there is only 1 location), but they do now have self checkouts. I think they are pretty much the same as Libertad and Vea (the other 2 chains where I am). The Express stores in BA seem to run pretty smoothly when I am there though.

I just wanted to raise awareness that a multinational company was changing direction from trying to pull out of the market, to instead doubling down and trying to expand as well as into other areas (banking). In general, positive news for the country and a published example of a non mining/oil and gas investment in the country.

The 8 Carrefours near me are all express, which means no self checkout. I live in a dense urban part of Retiro, most stores are small. There is a medium sized Disco, which has self checkout, but the user interface sucks. I actually use self checkout a lot in the states, where you just tap your card, after scanning. Here, you have to enter dni, and then go thru another four screens or so, making various selections, tap card, print receipt, and then get to leave. My chino can get that done in half the time. And its cheaper with a better selection.
