Argentina is a market that is constantly re-inventing itself, for better or for worse. Simply keeping up with the constant and dramatic changes that also require you to constantly re-invent your business is more often than not more time and money than many foreign corporations are up for, especially in competitive sectors where the amount of money you earn in that one market is insufficient to move the dial when looking at your global results. This is why Carrefour wants/ wanted a local partner to take on the headache of actually doing business Argentina.

The reality is that credibility takes decades to build (or regain) and seconds to loose, while the fallout from loosing credibility can take years for the consequences to materialize.

The might be something bigger afoot in Carrefour's plans than only Argentina, because I have read that they are also thinking to withdraw from Italy, due to being a "complicated" market, so possibly are they refocusing only on the more lucrative markets?
