It seems that the current El Niño phase of the ENSO cycle has come to an end, and we're now in a neutral phase, waiting for La Niña to come back in Spring:

So I would expect the wetter conditions we experienced since this summer would gradually come to an end, and when La Niña comes back, we would see a return to hot, dry conditions (drought), with implications for agriculture and the harvest next year. Not so many mosquitos, at least, though :)

Hopefully. We'd hate for bumper harvest conditions to continue next year and continue disguising the fact that any Milei success (the last thing we want to see) is actually down to Massa.

(I was bound to bite.)

Oh GOD no, back to drought again already?

Your fear of bumper harvest conditions next year is probably groundless.

I was thinking more of this: "The scenario changed and now Argentina hopes to plant 5% more wheat to obtain a potential harvest of 18.1 million tons", from https://bichosdecampo.com/cambio-el...secha-potencial-de-181-millones-de-toneladas/. You can plant, but La Niña will have something to say about how much you harvest. We've been here before.

My characterization of Milei, and his entire clique's work-shy, publicity-seeking social-media bubble government seems to grate on you (though describing Milei as our "toddler president" seems to be one of my most accurate depictions  ), so maybe we could compromise on this: in comparison to the effect nature has on Argentina's harvest, it doesn't really much matter what the government does.

This is from last year: "The agricultural sector could give the next Government an extra US$10,818 million with the harvest. After the drought, the sector would generate exports of 33,564 million dollars with the 2023/2024 campaign, above the US$22,746 million of the current cycle; due to lower prices, however currencies will remain below the record of US$41,525 million in 2021/2022" (https://ruralrosario.org/detalle/18...-US$10-818-millones-extra-con-la-cosecha.html), or "The next Government will have 70% more grains and 34.3 billion dollars from the countryside" (https://www.clarin.com/rural/proxim...4300-millones-dolares-campo_0_RehsOzyqKY.html). And you want to credit Milei with any of this?

I think I should mention that I didn’t intend that this topic become a political football, from my part it was an extrapolation from the ENSO observations of NOAA. Not everything needs to degenerate into a slanging match, right, Alby? I shall go back to uploading silly 4 month old Cocker Spaniel photos to Instagram, thank you very much :)

There doesn't seem to be much interest in the weather reports. You might generate more discussion if you stick to the winning formula of prolific political commentary.

With a day passed between your penultimate post and your last one, and no comment from anyone else in between, and nothing from anyone since Thursday, it seems you are slanging it out with yourself on this one.

Oh, my dear gracious God! Someone actually used the word "penultimate" correctly. Thank you, Jesus, thank you, Lord.

I have gotten so incredibly tired of people using that word as though it meant ne plus ultra.

Here, have a silly Spaniel photo, it’s sure to improve your day 😃

Have you thought about naming him Sergio, after your favorite economist, and having him cloned?

Suky would like you to know that her pronouns are she / her and I’d like you to know that just one of Suky is quite enough, no cloning necessary or wanted like your presumptive favourite economist, thank you very much ☺️

And, while Suky is only 4 months old and such considerations are hopefully far away, I’m not sure what I would do if Suky spoke to me from the afterworld? Should I run for president in that case?

Oh, am I to take it that your day didn’t improve with a photo of Suky with her “cara de lluvia”?

Though I do think Suky would like to be the face of Quilombocoin 😃
