Companies Flee Argentina, and Coronavirus Is Just One Reason

Dumb peronistas and "socialists" -- not true socialists -- are happy because they think somehow this will end up enriching Argentina rather than just leaving the vast majority of people even more poor, while the friends and family of newly-created inefficient domestic companies with no international competition can create shoddy products.

They are not so dumb - the country gets poorer but unionists and politicians, with all their friends and relations, get richer. The worse the economic situation is, the more people depend on "planes" administered by the local chieftains, who make sure they get the votes needed to stay in power. Indefinitely.

Poor Argentina....! Now the Ks have resorted to taxing milk - 10.5% IVA added. What is next?

But from a leftist point of view: is it in fact not a good thing that international companies are leaving? So the soulless corporations no longer exploit the poor, hard working people of Argentina and transfer abroad the riches of this proud country?

I would say that's a mischaracterization of the leftist perspective. It is possible to promote economic growth without exploitation, and it's a false choice to choose between the two. The countries with the highest standard of living fall under the definition of "socialist" (unless you're going by a Cold War-era definition of the term) in that they have a strong welfare state and free markets. Argentina doesn't remotely have a socialist government, by any definition. But I do get that here, cheap populist rhetoric passes for "socialism."

Things here remind me a lot of Chicago politics but on a national level, where the "unions" (teachers, police, public workers) are more like organized crime groups and they're a major reason for the government's perpetual debt and the culture of high-level bribery needed to do business there. At least the Peronists have a fairly strong opposition party, Chicago hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1931 (the last was William Hale Thompson, whose campaign was funded by Mr. Al Capone).

If you were president there, assuming president can do much, or the ruling party, legislator, etc., what would you do to solve Argentina's problems?

I have a whole pro-growth program I'd implement, but one place where Bolsonaro is totally correct is his support ruthless death squads against the scumbags - only he should be targeting poachers, deforesters, murderers (ie. ranchers) to save and regrow the Amazon rain forest.

If you were president you would have to tell poor people "no". You'd also have to tell them to get to work. You'd have to tell rich people "no" and tell them to quit stealing from the country. You'd have to tell unions that they should temper their expectations. You would need to fire most of the public sector worker and make them shift to the private sector. You would have to convince the foreign markets that argentina is good for any money lent to it.

In short you would never be elected president.

For those that watched last night's program Intratables on TV, Former Presidential Candidate Espert recommended all of the above.Plus he stated that 1.5 million public employees should let go from a total of 4 MM in Argentina. Who would take these measures and leave penniless all your relatives, political supporters , etc. Not reelected , for sure plus none of your Congressmen would be seen again..!

Would you care to name those 2 countries, if you are referring to Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. Are refered as Capitalists for a long time .. The Nordic Socialist model ended..!

By Roberto Cachanosky: The substitution of imports for national production and the culture of subsidies destroyed Argentina
....The way out of the long decline is very clear. What is missing are politicians of the stature of Mitre, Sarmiento, Avellaneda, Roca,
A historical review of the World Bank and the North and South Foundation allows observing the poor economic cycle of the countryellegrini, Uriburu, Quintana, etc. that they had stature of statesmen and none of them sought reelection, except for Roca, who was twice president, allowing two periods to pass before assuming again.
That is to say, it was a generation that dedicated itself to building a country and, for decades, we have politicians who are dedicated to doing a business of politics and to making a clean sweep of the republican principles of the Constitution of 1853/1860 in order to implement the business of politics based on clientelistic populism.

Economists in Denmark to America: Yeah, We're Not Socialist

The Fraser Institute’s Economic Freedom of the World index ranks Denmark 16th (out of 162 countries). According to the Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom, Denmark (ranked 12th out of 180 countries) ranks higher than the US (18th). Denmark generally ranks high on regulation, protection of private property, fighting corruption, flexibility of the labor market and trade, but ranks low on taxes and public spending, which are very high in Denmark compared to other countries.

In short you need a "burner" government. Get in, make BIG changes including to the constitution, purge institutions of their "militant" factors and most importantly do it fast before the angry mobs chase you out of the Casa Rosada. But once its done, just maybe a skeleton exists for a serious state to follow where it is more difficult to get away with corruption or wanton political interference...

Didn't they have this once with 5 presidents over the course of a week? Each making changes then resigning?
