Hi,

I'm tired of using contacts (btw any recommendation for a good optician? Haven't been very happy with the contacts I've bought so far)....

But the question was really if any one has done corrective eye surgery in Buenos Aires.

How would you say that quality and prices differ from europe or the states? Experiences?

Hia

Well I would say get a good set of glasses. They can look great, there are no complications and we are using the eyes we were given

Four eyes Chaz

My mother-in-law and sister-in-law have both had corrective eye surgery here, with no complications all. I say go for it.

Why would you take a risk like that? In my opinion any surgery that is not absolutely necessary is a big mistake. A lawyer friend represented a woman who had cosmetic surgery in BA. It went badly and she wound up completely paralyzed. Why take a risk?

i am having a final consultation next week and if all's well, i'll have lasik the following week. If I go through with it.. :)
everyone I know that has had it is absolutely thrilled they did it. And they say that the risk of getting serious eye infections with wearing contacts over many years is higher than any problems with the surgery. But, it is still surgery! so the thought still makes me nervous..
I'm going to Doctor Pablo Andersson - he works in the German hospital and also has his own practice. An optician friend here says he is a leading surgeon in this field in Argentina.
I will update if i get it done.

It's your decision, they are your eyes. WHO said that your doctor is a leader in the filed? Aleman is not one of the best clinics and I have never heard that it specializes in eye surgery. Have you really done an extensive background check? There is an eye clinic on Parera that is well respected for eye surgery. It is exclusively for eye problems. A specialist in the US found it on his list of leading hospitals around the world and recommended it to me when I was in the US and being treated for an eye infection. That's where he told me to go for follow up treatment . I forget the name but I can find out or you can ask. I went there a few times for consultations.

Hi Sergio,

sure, let me know the info.

i'm not actually seeing him through the hospital Aleman, i just know he consults there sometimes because someone else on this forum recommended him when they saw him there. I've been going to his private consultorio.
i've been trying to research more about him online, but not sure where to find info. i have some papers and presentations he has been part of but i'm wondering if there are other ways to check.
My next consulatation with him, i'll be asking him a lot of questions as well! i still haven't made my final decision yet..

I have had the surgery here. It was 8 years ago on a vacation here to visit my husbands family. Everyone thought I was crazy " why would I get my eyes done in the 3rd world country". Well let me tell you it was the best thing I have ever done. The doctor who did it is a friend of my husbands family. He has done everyones eyes in his family who needed it as well. I did it 8 years ago & still don't have a single problem with my vision (knock on wood). I don't have all his info. His last name is Plagos, first name may be Goyo, but my husband wasn't sure if that was just his nick name the family goes by. HIs office is on Maipu in Olivos I believe. Again I don't have all the info, if you need it I will get it for you.

This is the clinic that was recommended to me by a specialist in the US. I have gone several times: Centro Oftalmológico Malbrán - Urgencias las 24 hs. - Emergencias y Urgencias
Parera 164
