Cranberry Juice

Went down to the store, Casa China, to check out what Peony54(and Sleuth) guessed about the products all being blueberry juice. Peony54 is correct. While they probably carry 30 different brands of jugo de arandano, 100% of the products are blueberry juice. I did find out that cranberry juice would probably be referred to here(if they had any) as jugo de arandano rojo.

Cranberries are indigenous to North America and not very popular elsewhere. I honestly do not know where else they are grown.

Here. They say its cause some hundred years ago some arrived on the island from a ship coming from North America. But besides that, not in many other places.

All of the arandano juice was blueberry because arandano is blueberry. Not even sure if cranberry has a translation in Spanish.

It is actually a cash crop here, but there is no internal market for it so it is export only. Entre Rios has invested heavily in berry production of all sorts. I might be able to source you some ocean spray cranberry juice. No guarantees and it won't be cheap I am sure. If you are interested send me a pm.

After swearing that you'd never find it here, I just had an Orange Cranberry Limeade at PF Changs in San Isidro. Yep, it was real cranberry and while the drink name is in English on the menu, the Spanish translation had it as arandano. No idea where they get it from, but it was pretty damn good. You might have to head to their bar for your cranberry fix.

I think the spanish difference between blueberry and cranberry is this:

Blueberry: Arandano

Cranberry: Arandano rojo / amargo / agrio
