So, what exactly are they looking for in a background check? I'm not *real* worried, unless they're super picky. I don't have any felonies on my record and no drug related offenses. Some DUI's from over 40 years ago (I've been clean and sober for almost 40 years), and a misdemeanor assault charge that's about 8 years old (I pled no contest).
That wouldn't be likely to keep me out, would it?

Sounds like you're in the U.S. in which case an FBI criminal background check is standard: https://www.fbi.gov/how-we-can-help...d-information/identity-history-summary-checks

Edit: re-read your post and you probably already know that an FBI background check is the document to acquire and are rather seeking opinions on what, if anything, in the background check could be disqualifying for an Argentine visa. On that point I have no idea, sorry.

In fact, I'm going today to get fingerprinted for the FBI background check. I've checked, and the assault charge is no longer showing in the county where it occurred, thanks to a CA law that automatically expunged it.
If it doesn't show up in the FBI database, I'm pretty sure I have nothing to worry about.
