Hi Everyone,

After getting married last week to my Argentinian wife (thanks to all the people here who helped with the understanding of the process), I'm starting to prepare myself for the arduous journey of applying for temporary residency here.

I've had a look at old posts on the forum here and there's a lot of great information to help me on my way; but, I've read online in a couple of places that if you are from the UK that you don't need to produce a criminal background check due to the fact it's not federal. These posts were from 2009 and I'm not sure if that still applies or a change has been made.

Does anyone here have experience as a person from the UK going through the residency process and if so, is this true? It would obviously safe the hassle of acquiring it and getting an apostille in England and then sent to me here.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

When I did my residency paperwork a few years back I had to present my UK criminal record check, apostilled and translated.

Married to an argentine, you don't need temporary residence. You can go directly to permanent residency without any problems. Its valid for 15 years instead of 1 year (I believe) for temporary residence.

Do you remember which entity you need to contact to get it? The ACRO (Association of Chief Polic Officers Criminal Records Office) or Criminal Records Bureau, or Met Police?

This is the department that will issue your police certificate: https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx Get it done in Spanish and you will avoid the hassle of having to translate it. Get it apostilled so again they don't create problems for you here.

I got mine from disclosure Scotland which was accepted.

seems to be the English / Welsh equivalent.

Thanks for the info. Is it possible to get it done in Spanish? I haven't seen an option on the website/application form. How much did this cost you in total?
