Trump has 62 percent disapproval rating in new AP poll
The majority of Americans in a new poll disapproves of President Trump’s overall performance, despite greater support for the president’s handling of the economy than other issues in the survey.
Sixty-two percent of Americans said they disapprove of the job Trump is doing, while just 36 percent approve, according to the Associated Press–NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released Thursday.
While low compared to former President Obama, Trump’s latest approval rating is relatively consistent with the polling results seen throughout his first term. Trump’s approval rating has stayed between 32 and 42 percent throughout his time in office, the AP noted.

Bernie promises to go further than any other presidential candidate in history to end the fossil fuel industry’s greed, including by making the industry pay for its pollution and prosecuting it for the damage it has caused.
And most importantly, we must build an unprecedented grassroots movement that is powerful enough to take them on, and win. Young people, advocates, tribes, cities and states all over this country have already begun this important work, and we will continue to follow their lead.

Prominent U.S. Democratic presidential contenders Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are campaigning on taxing the super-rich, with Warren calling for a two per cent annual tax on wealth above $50 million, rising to three per cent on billionaires.
In Canada, where politicians have shied away from even putting their toe in the water when it comes to taxing the rich, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has taken a bold plunge, calling for a version of Warren’s tax — an annual one per cent tax on wealth over $20 million.
This is an excellent idea, and is apparently popular. A new Abacus poll shows that 67 per cent of Canadians support (or somewhat support) a wealth tax, along the lines proposed by Warren, and that even a majority of Conservative voters support it.
Yet the wealth tax has received little media coverage — beyond denunciations in the National Post, which surely has nothing to do with the fact the media is largely owned by billionaires.

"I hate that we live in a world where you have to be protected from fellow humans. I hated it as a child living through war and I hate it now."
Rep. Ilhan Omar on Wednesday offered her perspective on the threats and threatening political rhetoric targeting her and her family due to her position as one of the first Muslim women in Congress.
After a reporter tweeted an image of Omar speaking at an event in Minnesota with a bodyguard standing behind her, the congresswoman tweeted that recent xenophobic language and threats, coming from anonymous senders as well as from the White House and the halls of Congress, have forced her "to accept the reality of having security."
Since then, Trump and other high-level Republicans have drawn outrage as they've continued to stoke Islamophobic and anti-immigrant sentiment against Omar.
Trump said in July that Omar and three other progressive women of color in Congress should "go back" to the countries they and their families had come from. Of the four congresswomen, only Omar was actually born outside the United States—emigrating from Somalia as a refugee when she was a child.
On social media, supporters of Omar decried Republicans' tacit encouragement of the threats against her and applauded her for speaking out about the danger the president and others in the GOP have helped to place her in.

On Thursday, September 12th, Democrats Abroad will gather at the American Club of Buenos Aires [Viamonte 1133, Piso 10 (http://americanclub.org.ar/)] to watch the Third Democratic primary debate with friends and fellow Democrats committed to getting out the vote come 2020. With only 10 qualifying candidates taking the stage this time around, the first one-night-only debate has arrived!
Everyone is strongly encouraged to RSVP online (to determine the room size we will need), arrive early to meet and greet fellow Dems (anytime after 20:00 is great), and watch our candidates debate a variety of important issues from 21:00 to Midnight (Argentina Standard Time). Members of the American Club have kindly offered to host the 'Debate Watch Party' at no entrance fee to attendees. Food and drinks are of course available, with participants covering their own costs.
Come prepared to play 'Debate Watch Bingo', meet great people, and educate one another as we work towards defeating 45 in 2020!
