Dental implants.

Do the implant here and the crown in the US. You'll still have considerable savings.

I asked about that, but they said that it won't work as they might not have the same hardware available in the US to match with the argentine implant. What do you think? I currently have my highly fractured tooth/crown glued into the hole - not the best situation for the three weeks I have left here.

Can you delay your flight? 4K and up in the US vs 800 or 900 USD here. Might be worth it to delay.

Also check around with other dentists -a friend of mine had her tooth extracted and the implant/fixed crown done the same day.

I had someone else offer me that service, but it seemed shady. From what I read the implant needs to rest and adhere to the bone for a few months. Was it a full implant or just a little peg? I'm talking about the type where your ENTIRE tooth/root needs to be taken out, and a screw put in it's place.

There are some dentists doing the implant and crown in short periods of time. Some believe it's OK, but you are taking a risk. You can ask your dentist to use a US implant, most I talked to had them. I don't think it would be hard to do the crown in the states. Pelcman is US educated and has contacts in the states, especially if you're near LA or Miami.

I think it's much more common know that it used to be and according to some quick research, has about the same success rate as those done with a waiting period. The bone has to be in good shape in order to do it though.

I called her to get the name of her dentist, I'll post it when she calls me back. I know she had her entire tooth extracted and the implant put in the same day. AFAIK, she hasn't had any problems.

The implant can be placed immediately after the extraction if there is no infection present. If there is an infection it must be cleared before any procedures. Bone graft, necessary for immediate load ,and implant are placed together and in 3-9 months the implant is ready for the crown. Beware of upper molars--sometimes a sinus lift is required of course for extra $$ but necessary in some patients.

Re having the crown in a separate country--not a problem but make sure you purchase the abutment from the Arg dentist. The abutment attaches the implant to the crown. Best to demand quality hardware even at a steeper price. Nobel Biocare is one such company. Google for a few others. Argentina has a brand produced locally. Use caution.

You said you are coming back in 1 year. You can have the implant done now and the crown in a year after everything is healed. That's exactly what Tom is doing now. Dr Pelcman is doing the work.

Dr. Samuel Pelcman has provided me 10 implants and crowns for those, 2 crowns for natural teeth, bone surgery and a root canal over the past 5 years. I live in Canada. He's an incredibly caring dentist and recently gave my husband his first-ever crown (on a natural tooth). I have 3 dental specialists and one family dentist where I live but Dr. Pelcman is the most knowledgeable, skilled, and caring of all of them.

Pelcman charges $600US +/- for the implant and $400US +/- for the crown. He uses the same implant hardware my US dentist uses. It is possible to put the implant in and the crown on at the same time but I, personally, do not recommend it, especially if you grind or clench.
