Developing Story: LATAM Argentina will permanently cease operations

Only reason I could think of would be to protect jobs within Argentina. Not sure that is going to happen, but that would be the motivation behind a rescue such as that.

Jobs? Who needs jobs, especially real jobs? I mean, it's the year 2020, people just need free, freshly printed money, to stay at home and rascarse las pelotas while playing on their Samsung. Welcome to the new world, no diseases (and no jobs).

For years, Aerolineas' Camporistas directives tried to squeeze LATAM out.
Now that it is leaving, they complain about the 1700 jobs that will be lost. Amazing morons....!

More proof that people’s lives and livelihoods in this country are nothing but political tools.
Worth noting that AR staff received the salary deduction to 75% that LA was denied. In the years LA has operated in Argentina it has lost more than $300m while AR has been subsidized by over $4bn.
Given the state of the industry and AR+AU merger, the chances of the ex-LA employees of finding a job within the industry any time soon are next to null.
Bravo.

It is not strange LATAM is leaving. What is strange is why it didn't leave long ago.
It had to compete with Aerolineas, which averages a 1.45 million dollars A DAY in subsidies.

Argentina is the only LATAM operation to close down, LATAM will continue flying in countries where it has domestic operations : Brasil, Perú, Ecuador, Paraguay, Colombia y Chile.

  1. Camporista Air Union leaders must be celebrating
  2. 1700 LATAM former employees must be asking themselves, where to go now
  3. Thousands of LATAM major suppliers must sell now only to Aerolineas the Monopoly

This poor country is quickly becoming an international pariah, thanks to the concerted efforts of Peronistas, Kirchneristas, Camporistas and sindicalistas...

Keep up the good work, guys...! There are still a few bits of flesh to pick off Argentina's carcass.

When the LATAM Group CEO spoke he pointed out this fact - it has more to do with Argentina that COVID, and if the government had have permitted them to cut salaries in the same way as AR, they probably would not have taken this decision. But of course, according to AF, it is just a tragedy like is happening all around the world. Surprisingly still very few major airlines have disappeared from the skies due to COVID...

Want another twist to the story, the head of APLA union is calling on the government not to allow LATAM to take their planes out of Argentina - expropriarse! (Just not the company or the jobs... but who would say no to a free $100m aircraft)

RIP.
Lan is free to leave after paying debts, among others, with the workers, because they must be compensated according with the ban of layoffs.

LAN does not exist as a company - it is now LATAM. There is no suggestion from LATAM that it will not fulfil its obligations since cutting its losses are cheaper than sustaining operations in Argentina. Hence the suggestion of APLA seems a little... premature...

I was planning a trip to El Calafate later this year. That plan is moot now, as I refuse to fly with Aerolineas. Will drive somewhere else instead.

Every day I thank God on bended knees for not being an Argentine taxpayer.
