Disputing Bills/Charges in Argentina

People should be aware of a standard operating procedure for many gsm operators regarding roaming and messages. If you turn on your phone even for a second when roaming, your phone is registered as being on the foreign network. Thereafter, all traffic is routed to that carrier and charged accordingly until your phone returns physically to the original carriers network. Thus anybody leaving a voice mail means you are charged as though they are calling you. So if you have a lot of people leaving you messages, it can add up quickly. I don't know if this what happened as I don't know argentine operator policies but it is a possibility. The solution, btw, is to divert all your voice calls to uour voice mail BEFORE leaving the country. You can then still make calls and get sms while abroad without the suprises.
