Doctors...health care in BA

My wife and I have a rule that we never accept anything but the best care for our family especially our baby. If we don't like the hospital, we find another one, if we don't like the doctor, we don't go back. In the beginning I was so afraid to offend someone, now I don't care. It is their job to be professional and an expert, whether that is a doctor or admin.

A little tip about admin... in general I don't expect high standards any more from customer service, admin, etc. here. But when it comes to medical appointments etc I stand there at the counter until I figure a way for someone to understand me and that I completely understand them. Doesn't matter how many people are behind me in line, I stand there.

Sometimes they try to rush me and even look over my shoulder to the person behind me "siguente", I stand my ground and do NOT allow the person behind me to squeeze their way up. I tilt my head into the line of sight of the admin to make sure they are still "seeing" me and say one minute I don't understand or whatever the situation is. Sometimes a co-worker will come over and help them and between the 3 of us, maybe even 4 we'll figure it out.

In my case I know if I don't work something out with them, that they will have to deal with my wife, and they definitely don't want that! So I'm doing them a favor by being "politely persistent" :)

Oh dear well it seems there are plenty of people dying to give the HB a good bashing and at the same time I have heard countless stories from other people about other plans which are equally negative. I think I will have to explore the options in my existing health care plan a little more before giving up, after all the health care has not been a problem so far.

I have used the service 4 times in the last year for emergency and general health care needs and have been satisfied so far...my only issue is not being able to make my own routine appointements because I am a beginner to Spanish and I wanted to feel a bit more independent from the Argentines who have looked after us here. Now I have a number to an English people for more complex questions, I feel happier.

And I will use the approach of Markbsas, from what I've heard it's required everywhere here and I've had plenty of practice putting up a bit of a fight in the NHS which uses the same system of having to see a general doctor before seeing the specialists you wanted to see and knew you needed in the first place. There are pro's and con's to this but for those of us a bit more clued up medically it's frustrating I know :)
