I wonder which road to opt for.

Would you take Ruta 9 in direction of Cordoba then go South (approx. 200 km before Cordoba) on Ruta 158 to catch Ruta 8.

Or would you drive all the way on Ruta 8?

Third option: Ruta 7?

First option is longer but I recall that at least half the way up to Cordoba is made of an highway while second option (Ruta 8) might consist in a single road all the way.

I'm going to chase UFOs in San Luis :p Will post pics if I find some

I will be going to San Luis for a couple of days also this month, to visit friends & the place
Already have my bus ticket.

I will ask my friend which route her partner recommends as they travel to Buenos Aires and back by car.....

My inspiration for the trip comes from a French guy who has a blog here:
http://www.petitherge.com/article-2191839.html

The guy is not a looney. He has no valid explanations about the lights he saw in this desert (could be gaz coming from dead animals but how would they move that fast?).

I'll keep posted anyway, could make a funny thread (even if nothing is found)

We do the drive every few months and usually take 7 all the way. If you can avoid Fridays to leave, better as it can be quite heavy traffic.

Depends where are you going. If you go to Merlo maybe ruta 8 would be the best way. Is one lane, but is a pretty road and on days that is not busy is straightforward. Try Google Maps for directions, or the local Ruta0 website:

http://www.ruta0.com/rutas_argentinas.aspx

You put the origin city, the end city, and if your car runs with Super or Diesel, and voila!

For Merlo (San Luis) the site recommends route 8, for San Luis (city) recommends route 7.
