Thanks everyone for your spirited replies.

I am supposed to go to some company by 8pm tonight and there will be an envelope with my name on it.

Will keep everyone posted.

Seriously that sounds sketchy. Why can't she deliver the cash to you in person. I will lay money on her screwing you over with this. Ask her to meet you in person. But if you go, really, be very careful.

And let us know how it turned out.

If there are dollar controls, this whole paying rent in dollars set-up simply must end. We simply won't be able to procure them anymore.

Craigslist is also getting ridiculous in terms of prices. They are charging New York prices for some of the places. Market discipline will probably take care of that eventually, but the prices on Craig's are almost an insult now, and that's in comparison to a year ago.

That is exactly what I have been trying to explain here but some forum members jumped in the air mad at me when I suggested that this is the way to go in having some government control tied to all this currency exchange madness. Hope they start to understand now what a rotten system has been endured for decades here.

Latest news is that, as many as you know by now that this TV celebrity 'diva' Susana Gimenez jumped up and down in disgust because she went to exchange pesos for dollars and was refused by AFIP for discrepancies in her income/expenses declaration. She then utilized her program to criticize and vent out her frustration for the measures taken by the government on these matters. What she forgot to mention is that her income declaration was 50 thousand pesos per year and the fact that she already exchanged pesos/dollar for an amount of 2,5 million dollars in that period. That is the situation with these people they are mad on all this because now they have to justify how come that with so little declared income they are able to move that quantity of money, and what is worse they do it to by taking those foreign exchange money out of the country and invert it probably in real state in Miami, or Europe or whatever, nice little bitches like these are plenty in this country.

I seriously LOL'ed at this one, and then let out a long, spirited "BOLUUUUUUUUUUUUDA." Maybe she bought herself a live dinosaur with that money.

Everyone knows she is a boluda, well almost everyone, but this kind of boludas are the ones who have the power to do a real damage to the society, on top of that she get all the publicity (good faked one, whitewash) by the media who protect her by having vast interest at play on all this.

Lucas,

I know you don't believe in really ANY credible media sources in BA (or maybe you could mention a few), but could you please provide documentation that Susana Gimenez has a declared income of only 50,000 pesos a year. Obviously, this seems really outrageouss, but then again more outrageous things have happened in Argentina. It is very difficult for those of us on the "outside" of Argentina to determine what are credible sources when we are told basically over and over again, "you just can't believe what you read/hear here."

Thank you!

A pleasure....hope you can read castilian.

Hope you're happy now :p

Of course DO NOT expect to find this kind of articles in any newspaper such as Clarin, La Nacion, Perfil etc. these media outlets protect this kind of people so they can utilize them later on to push their interest, which BTW are NOT the interest of this country, maybe other countries, yes..

Well thanks for the articles Lucas, but again, how is the average foreigner living in Argentina able to discern between what is "legitimate media" and the "yellow press" (sensationalist media)? I think your sources comes from Pagina 12. Is this more credible? Furthermore, how is anyone anywhere able to discern the truth from "sources"? Likely using a wide variety of cross checks and even noting various recognition by internationally recognized "indepedent sources" I suppose who evaluate such.

Is Susana G. tax return a public document? That would be the real proof I suppose. When presented with "undeniable evidence" it becomes then futile to try and talk your way out of a wet paper bag. This happened to me personally once when I presented a now EX boyfriend with concrete evidence (photos and text) indicating that he had an amorous affair for up to six months before we ended our relationship. When presented even with these facts, he (Argentine) just went into the most bitter defense (and unfortunately most stereotypical of the Argentine reputation for drama and denial) and CONTINUED TO DENY RESPONSIBILITY! Lol.....That is when I decided that "this is not a serious conversation, and this is not a serious country!" Lol.....

But thanks for the heads up on the information about Susana G. It is important only because she IS considered a national icon or treasure whether one wants to accept it or not!

Be assured that if you read it in the sources I provided to you these are all right, the editor of these newspapers have checked the facts before publishing them.

This is a thing you CAN NOT said by reading articles from the written media such as Clarin, La Nacion, La Razon, Perfil etc., those newspapers always lied to the people, not only they lie but also manufacture apocryphal material in the news and notes they publish to misinform and confuse the people of this country and I should say by proxy others countries as well such as Spain, LATAM countries, Europe as a whole and US, they copy and paste propagating and perpetuating this misinformation and lies, they have vast interest all around, they are organized and they want total control on the people minds and will.

Susana as you said, not me, is a national icon propped up by the oligarchy with their media barons to have the mases dormant in the ignorance and vulgarity as the Tinelli's programs, Gran Hermano etc., programs which are promoted constantly to brutalize even more the society, bread and circus is their motto.

Have a nice day.

Thanks again everyone!

Had I encountered any problems, my first line of defense would have been to send an email including a link to this thread with the mention that I was prepared to take this further.

I am happy to report that this will not be necessary. I did go to this office (while it was still light out). The place of business is legitimate. There was an envelope waiting for me along with a receipt to sign. I stepped into an office and confirmed that the amount was correct. Hopefully, the bills aren't counterfeit (they don't look it).

I am breathing a lot easier now and have some leads on apartments.

Good news, thanks for the follow up, and good luck next time in your search.
