Edenor Charges

Hi folks, after all the talk about energy subsidies on and off, I didn't know what to expect from Edenor.

I have a large, old apartment that's hard to heat and cool, plus lots of appliances, including an electric clothes dryer that drives usage very high. In the past, I've paid the energy charge plus a tax that's basically a fine for using more electricity than the average household. At times the fine has doubled the usage charge.

To my pleasant surprise, the Edenor bill just arrived without the fine/tax, and showing an explicit government subsidy, resulting in the lowest charges in memory. This despite the fact that one or more A/C's has been running on "calor" all the time for the 2-month period billed.

The bill now shows a red banner saying "Consumo con subsidio del estado nacional." And it shows that my usage increased by 400 kwh from the prior period, although the total amount billed is 80% LESS than the total payable for the prior period.

May be bad policy, but thank you Cristina!

I'm wondering if this is an error and I should be prepared to receive a corrected bill.

What are the rest of you seeing in terms of electricity charges? Did the government actually increase subsidies and also drop the fine/tax for high usage?

My understanding is that this "relief" will apply for the next two months (or perhaps two billing cycles) after which it will be back to where it just was.

Anyone know this for a fact (or fiction?)

Here's a story of conservation/waste 2 identical apartments , one has a single gas heater, other has 3 gas heaters, same billing period $44 pesos vs $264 (less rebate of `~ 50% from $564 total) ..! We were comfy all winter..!

I'm glad were the $44 apto..!!!

Thanks, folks, for the updates, especially to Nikad for the momento24 links. Still, none of this explains an 80% decrease in my bill.

I'll consider myself fortunate for now, and prepare for a 160% increase in the next bill!

At least it's still nothing like the USD 700/month that ConEd occasionally charged me for summer air conditioning in New York. . . .

The decrease you saw was most likely becasue the electricity companies were told to re issue their bills for the period, they now have a warning or say how much of that invoice is subsidized. Looks like to avoid complaints, they are informing their clients, and starting October, they will take another go with the increases ( that includes the infamous Puree fine for those who use more kw that they did during the same period of the previous year ). Last summer I got outrageous bills, 1200 pesos, 800 pesos, and I using the same if not a little bit less kw than the precious year
