Guys,

I ventured out to buy a medical insurance for the first time despite living for many years in Argentina. No particular reason for it but I just felt that its a wise way to live life. In past 4-5 years, when ever I have gotten sick, I have gone to Hospital Aleman and always received excellent treatment there.

The insurance agent was quite snobbish. I thought insurace agents bend their back to sell u a policy but ..no..not in BA.

I discussed. I opted for a A6 policy which is one less than their highest A7 policy. the current charges are 890 pesos a month. I said, i wanted to prepay for a year. The agent said its not possible. As their is inflation going on, the prices increases all the time. So even if you prepay, it does not matter..as you have to pay the difference if the price goes up! This is unlike other countries, where a discount is offered if u prepay for a year!

So I ended up paying 12000 pesos..and extra 1100 incase the price goes up and I am left in a limbo. i was told that I would get a factura every month to know exactlyw whats going on and how much balance is left. They really wanted me to give them a credit card or a debit card..but I did not.

Their are two good things I discovered

aa) I was under impression, that taking insurance with hospital aleman means getting to use only and only hospital aleman. How wrong I was. Their insurance has a vast network of specialists and doctors in entire capital federal to choose from. I dont have to always come and see a doctor only in hospital aleman!

so this means this policy is as good as oSDE or others. This is because not only do they have their own hospital in the capital but they also have a network of doctors to consult.

bb) if u travel to neighboring countries such as Chile, Brazil, Paraguay, uruguay and bolivia..u r covered as well! Not bad

Overall a good buy, I feel except the agent was extremely snobbish as if did not give a damn.

Thanks for the data on Aleman Medical Insurance.I assume you must be fairly young to pay $890 per month..!! I checked for me and the rate was prohibitive.... Lucky You...!!

Whoa, I'm a little shocked you're paying that much...I pay only 560 a month for OSDE 210. I guess it depends on age though...I'm 25. But did you shop around to compare prices?

I had the same experience of snobbishness when I signed up for OSDE, I thought they would want to sell me something but instead it felt like I was taking up the woman's time or something by asking about the extent of their benefits.

That seems like a really good price for the A6 to me as well. How old are you?

I have the A7 and I m satisfied with the service.
They accept us with my wife pregant of 8 months.
They are targetting foreigners, so they just ask for your passport no matter your immigration status.

I recently signed with Aleman as well but had a great experience...... the man that helped us was very friendly. If anybody on here wants to check it out just ask for Leandro. Tell him the Canadian chick and Colombian guy sent you!

Save money now that you are YOUNG so you can afford the Aleman Medical insurance Plan when you are over 60. The rate for a shared pavilion room is $5500 pesos per month, for a private room $6400 per month....!!! March 2013 data.

My age is of no consequence in this discussion. As everyone will be priced as per their own age, and not my age.

However, I was upset why cant they sell me a one year plan at a fixed price? ( yeah yeah..understand the inflation here). But its like ordering food in a restaurant and waiter tells you that he can not guarantee you the same price at end of your meals as per the menu shown before I started eating!

Their is a mighty big difference between a OSDE 210 and A6. A6 is equal to a OSDE 410 in my opinion.

I saw their highest plan A7 and did not find anything great about it as compared to A6. The guy selling himself said, to go for A6 and no need for A7!

Yes, i did a research on all insurance policies for some months before I agreed to buy this one.

I did not buy OSDE ( my first choice) because their customer service ( marketing) is really horrible.

I do not agree with that they target foreigners. The service agent did not try to speak to me in English at all. I asked him some questions in English and he clearly told me he did not understand what I said. So, I reverted back to Spanish. Their whole brochure is in Spanish. If they were targetting foreigners, they would have a English brochure and English speaking agents. They are simply targetting people with money. I know many expats who have lived for years in BA without a insurance cos medical system is cheap here. But somehow, I just had a change of heart and decided to live with medical insurance for rest of my life.

I personally feel at the moment in BA, their is lot of competition between medical insurance companies. And the consumer should ideally be the king in such a scenario..though its not so!
