Exporting A Car!

Thanks for the responses guys. Correct the purpose is two fold, use the car and then be able to take the pesos back without having to sell them back on the black market (god knows what it might get to in between the time of sale).
I was going to investigate shipping from Uruguay and Chile (as I imagine they would be safer) but then I assumed that you needed residence in those countries to ship out from there as well.

Your best bet is to check with an experienced International freight forwarder , to get all the current requirements, Better yet , find two FF , and see if their information matches. Be careful asking Aduana directly , as that person may not have the correct information , even though they work for Aduana.

By the time you figure the cost of the FF , export documents , Ocean fright , insurance , import duties , car compliance with local laws , car registrations, etc...

would it really be worth it ?

I'm sorry, I really only know the details for bringing a car into Argentina. I am sort of googling around for you but am having trouble finding anything concrete. :( From what I'm finding they are mostly saying the biggest issue is dealing with Argentine goverment for exports, but on the bright side they don't seem to complain about the cost in Aduana. One would assume your highest Customs cost would be the country you are taking the car to, but hey this is Argentina! I do agree your best bet is to export it from here since you have residency and that to call Aduana Headquarters will give you the more precise answer. If your main concern is really about taking your pesos out of the country, I think even with being on the wrong side of the exchange rate you will come out better by selling it here. I don't know about the price of cars or this particular car in Australia though! :)

Exporting from Chile a car with Argentine Plates on a temporary entry permit.....
Exporting a car you recently purchased in Argentina, maybe possible??

Could be candid but I've done much worst: driving as a French in Argentina a Canadian registered Jeep, registered to an Aussie, with a Colombian insurance. B)

Also on http://www.arcar.org there are many antique cars with a right hand steering wheel (if only Napoleon had managed invading the UK, our British friends would drive on the right side, lol).

Furthermore those right hand steering wheel cars sell for less. Could be astute

I was googling too but found jack. Plus I knew costs wouldnt be up to date anyway.
I am going to take the advice you guys have provided me though and head down to Aduana and see what I can find out.
I would only do it if it was financially beneficial in a decent way (as I know it would be a hassle), but atleast want to find out and crunch the numbers.
When I do finally get an idea of costs I will post them here.

I think that answer is probably no, but I just wanted to be sure!

I can recommend 2 Freight Forwarders if you like. They can get you all the pricing. But you would need a FF in final destination to get exact import prices and costs on that end.

PM me if you would like the contact info.

Remember to verify and confirm any information Aduana gives you. I have received incorrect information from them in the past.

Hello cbonanni, I used to work for Toyota/Lexus Automobiles.Being a sort of "car guy" all of my life, currently living in CA,USoA. Now retired and planning to venture into Chile~Argentina "travelling with my own car" in order to select a country of my next residence. I did not read the reson for you to export your current Argentine registered vehicle on to Australia. I have heard people has taken vehicle into Chile's "ZF" free trade zone from Uruguay and or Paraguay and from that point on, has shipped the vehicle to exterior world. Is it more expensive for you to ship it out of Argentinean port to Australia? And the left hand steering to right hand steering, the reverse transformation are done as a continuous business in Peru. They get many right hand vehicles a month from Japan and has to convert them into a left hand drive for selling in Peru. You might get ahold of one of these merchants and get the inside know-how as to convert your Argie car into your country's left hand drive spec. They even may have the discarded parts in hand in order to facilitate your conversion once your vehicle is in Australia and if your intended shipping vehicle is of a Japanese brand.
