Fees for Apartment Rentals –*Please explain

So... if we find it online (for instance ZonaProp)... all by ourselves... we still need to pay this fee?

It doesn't make much sense...but that's just the way it is. Even if you find it online (zonaprop, etc), it has been uploaded there by a real-estate agent, who will then show you around the property, introduce you to the owner (if you pay the owner directly), etc. The "fee" for this is x2 months rent. At first I thought that the agent would continue to act as a go-between between me and the owner should any problems arise, but they don't.
The only way to avoid this is to rent directly from an owner but then you tend to go into realm of tourist-type apartments and your rent itself can be higher.
