My husband and I want to head up to Esteros del Ibera for a long weekend in April -- has anyone been up there for fishing? Any recommends on where to stay / where we should base ourselves?

I took the family to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini for 3 days just a couple weeks ago, its spectacular. The wetlands that is, not the town. There's virtually nothing to do in town. We stayed here: http://www.ibera-argentina.com/irupe-lodge.html I am not aware of a nicer place. It was comfortable, the food was pretty good and the staff attentive. I recommend contacting the hotel and coordinating with them for transportation from whereever you fly into, I think Posadas is the closest airport with commercial flights to Buenos Aires, about 4 hours driving. Corrientes is where we live, its a 5 hour drive. If you head up there by bus then I'd suggest going to Mercedes and asking the hotel staff to pick you up there, Mercedes is about 90 minutes from Los Esteros. Hey Kurt, I'm planning on visiting and paddling the Ibera too.
And I'm also looking for a strictly platonic, quiet partner who enjoys nature and wants to paddle with me - feel free to PM.

Did you get to see the wildlife? the mammals and South American foxes/wolves?

Does that posada provide canoes/kayaks?

Quiet? Expensive? powerplugs? any advice we should know beforehand?

Thanks!

Matt and whoever would like to go with me from capital.

Tanti saluti

Matt, take a look at the photos, we saw monkeys, alligators, lizards, capybaras, and all sorts of birds. There are deer around too but we didn't see them. Its very quiet, not a lot of cars or trucks in Colonia Pellegrini. The hotel has Argentinian style power plugs and a very slow Internet connection via wifi in the lobby & restaurant. Contact the hotel about boats, tours, costs, etc.

My main piece of advice is don't try to drive there, the roads are terrible, especially if it rains. The hotel has a 4x4 and they'll send someone to get in you Posadas, Corrientes, or Mercedes.

Wow, thanks for the advice Kurt. Yes I did see the -stunning- pictures but you know how sometimes things are exaggerated in advertising. Glad to confirm it from someone wh's been there recently. I guess Ibera really is a must for nature lovers.

I wanna shoot (with a camera) one of those endangered red foxes/wolves!

Also thanks for the internet and hotel info!

-Matt

Hi Kurt... Great pics! We live in BA and I have 2 young kids who I'd love to bring up there. Could you give an idea of the costs to stay there? I have no idea if this is even affordable.
