Anyone have any idea how to get the best price on a flight BA-NYC leaving January 8; returning January 18? AA quotes over USD $2,100 which is awfully high.

I'm trying to go to California for xmas and my friend says wait until end of August/early September because that's when the best / 'right' prices will be listed. It's too early right now.

First of all, a disclaimer - I'm speaking as a professional here.

Two points to bear in mind:
1. You saw a price on AA of 2150 because you looked on their Argentine site. This price includes the 35% tax. If you are going to pay for the ticket in US Dollars, you can issue the ticket on AA.com's US site - which reduces the price to $1643.83.
2. If you are to issue the ticket in pesos, the ticket would cost ARS 17549.60 - which at the going 'street' exchange rate comes to about $1500 USD. There are even travel agents who are willing to accept USD at the 'normal' rate (in cash, of course..).
3. If you are willing to make a stop, there are options for 400-500 pesos cheaper.
