Hi everyone,

I’m looking to hear from people who’ve gone through the process of getting an Argentine passport for their newborn.

We’re currently in a bit of a time crunch and feeling some pressure to travel relatively soon after the baby is born, ideally within a month. I’d love to understand how realistic that timeline is in practice.

A few specific questions:
  • How long did it actually take you to get the DNI for your baby?
  • Were you able to expedite the process in any way?
  • Once you had the DNI, how quickly were you able to get the passport?
I’ve heard mixed things, some people say the DNI can come quite fast, while others mention delays. Same with the possibility of getting a fast tracked DNI number.
Would really appreciate hearing real experiences (good or bad), especially anything recent. Also open to any tips, things you wish you’d done earlier, or mistakes to avoid.

Thanks so much!

We applied for both of our small children in 2024. I'm terrible about remembering dates, but I would say it took around 90 days for each tramite. We did pay a small fee to expedite the passport. I don't recall there being an expedite option for the DNI. Keep in mind the shipping time. Our son was issued his DNI on June 5th, we received the card in the mail on June 24th.

I think trying to get any tramite done in 30 days would probably have most officials here vomiting from extreme motion sickness.

The newborn DNI alone will take a few weeks, even up to 1 month to receive in the mail. The good news is once the DNI comes in you can go to the airport and make a passport al instante at the renaper in the airport. It's ready in 2-6 hours, but the cost is 330K pesos.
