Getting Married - Facing Immigration Problems (Advise Sought)

I am English and the marriage is real, I have been with my partner for six years, we married for love, but also I suppose for convenience, but how can they prove it? And what would be the consequences if they did think it was a marriage of convenience?

I would think it's just a check up to see if you're living together etc. They do this in the U.S.a lot.
Don't sweat it. Go to the interview with full confidence. I bet you'll do fine,
They can "think" all they want but if you have "la libreta" you should be O.K.
Besides Macri's gov't is quite concerned with showing great respect for legality
Moreover,Argentines are very romantic as you have apparently already discovered.

If you've been together 6 years don't worry about it. If that is why they called you for an interview you will have no problems answering any questions that they may ask to determine the "authenticity" of the marriage. Don't be concerned, 6 years together, you will be fine.

When we applied for my husband's Canadian residence we did have to show evidence in the form of photos, emails etc -- these days you probably have at least a couple of years of that on your own phone, so that's fine. Back then we still had to dig everything out and print or photocopy, we didn't have smartphones when we started dating!

If its a real marriage, you don't need to sweat even 0.001%. The guys are just doing their job.

We had one of those interviews in Sweden when we had lived together for two years. I still don't know how we passed it since my partner is hopeless with dates, years and time in general. The officer probably thought that if we were a couple of convenience we would have prepared our story better!

Hello,

I will be getting married an Argentine as soon as the situation allows it. Since we have a quite particular situation I am worried about the DNI. My future spouse will have to go abroad for longer periods, whereas I will be staying in Argentina most of the time.

These two things are worrying me:

1) I read that the police sometimes comes to check whether both parts of the couple actually live at the stated address. Apparently they could also ask neighbours. Did anyone experience or hear about this?

2) I also read that both parts of the couple might have to go for an interview at the migraciones for them to check if you are a real couple. Does anyone know if this happens regularly?

Thanks a lot in advance for your reply!

Any government, with respect to immigration, assumes all immigration activity is fraudulent until proven otherwise. Even though you may have the best intentions and be honest, you are making it difficult on the process if you can't make yourself available whenever called upon, if called upon.

And yes, to answer your basic question, I have experienced this in a different part of the world. It is real and it sometimes plays out this way.

"SPOT CHECKING" keeps the process honest!

I'm guessing your visa / residency depends on your future spouse? Because if you had residency independently nobody, certainly neither the police nor Migraciones could care less.

You can get married now, more or less, with the pandemic it's obviously a very reduced procedure with your partner and 2 witnesses, but there doesn't seem to be any problem in getting a date in the near future for a civil registry wedding.

I worry about the DNI too, I guess in 3-4 years of temporary residency my DNI address and where I actually live have coincided at most for a few months. I suspect most Argentinians are in the same situation.

You can apply for citizenship now and thus avoid immigration to deport and ban you. It also helps to avoid rejection at the re-entry.
