Global Marijuana March

Short answer: no-- there is no major party with a legalisation platform, and the media is ensuring that they don't, by running these narco headlines everyday.

As for advances in the US, I say small beans. The real effects of the "War on [some] Drugs" are the mass incarceration of the poor, mostly blacks, and its use as a foreign policy tool to interfere in places like Colombia. And the recent legalisations have had negligible effect on either of those.
I beg to differ. Medical MJ is legal in (I believe ) 24 states. MJ is Legal in 2 states. The Fed is keeping hands off. And possibly most important, the feds just announced the pending release of thousands of prisoners (mostly poor and black) who were jailed with outlandish sentences for crack.

It's not perfect but it is getting better.

Your point is well taken Tom; it's not all gloom, and the claim by the administration that it is going to work toward releasing unfairly sentenced prisoners is definitely a step in the right direction.

Still, AFIK no one has been released yet and according to Democracy Now (24/4):

"while tens of thousands of prisoners may be eligible for the new clemency guidelines, experts warn a lengthy review process and other restrictions could lead to just hundreds being released".

As per usual with the Obama Admin, you really have to wait for them to act before you can believe their rhetoric.

I think it's great that many states are moving (or have moved) toward legalisation, but so far there has been no effective change in the real demographic effects that I mentioned: we still have more blacks in chains than under slavery, and we are still destroying Colombia and Mexico.
