We often talk about leaving Bs As and moving to Mendoza, despite the fact neither of us have ever been there! I hope to visit in October whist we're in San Juan. ...
What has you living in Mendoza? Do you enjoy it there, or are you there for business reasons? (if you don't mind me asking!)
If you had been staying in Mendoza for a week, you would know why - not to forget the 1,200 bodegas in the province
Given the "I live with my Argentine boyfriend" I can guess why you are living in BsAs and not Down Under.
How is it to live permanently in that (CENSORED) and (CENSORED) city?
Do NOT miss the opportunity to visit Mendoza while in San Juan! Expect to feel a strong desire to move here after your visit.
BTW: If you decide to stay for a week or so, take a look at this (about $550 a week, same as a 1* or 2* hotel, and worth every centavo + if you cook yourself you save a bunch) - my first departamento in MDZ en pleno microcentro:
http://www.mendozatravel.com/departamentos_peatonalindependencia.asp
I have travelled a lot for ages (mostly as part of my job), and the towns I have come to really, really like are Morelia (Mexico, but too much drug related crime these days), Kiruna (Sweden, beautiful but 14 months of winter/year - allright, only 10), Mendoza, Corrientes (scorching hot during summer), Urfa (Turkey, makes Corrientes feel like a fridge), La Serena (Chile, and my second option, cloudy coastal town, thus even at midsummer cool until noon), Valbonne (near Nice, France), Barcelona and Valparaíso during the day time (restaurants close at 21:30 - in a Latin American town!!) - (and loathe: BsAs, Tehran, Riyad (Saudi) + a couple more).
I was originally introduced to Mendoza by my ex-girlfriend (Mendocina) who was then working in Valparaíso (now in BsAs I am told, poor girl), drove over to meet her family, fell in love with the city, forgot the girl, and have returned time and again, because of the very friendly people who have made this feel like home, and have decided to live here for the rest of my life.
None of the horrror stories I read on the expat site from BsAs occur here - will tell more of the experiencias contrarias from MDZ in another thread.
I can do 95% of my bussiness over the internet using video conference and connecting to customers' sites, and the few times I need to be present in person on site I take a plane from MDZ via Santiago de Chile to anywhere, including 4 daily departures via somewhere to Danmark and my family.
I guess that's about it - jeez it is Saturday night and we ought to be somewhere around town instead of me writing long postings, but then on the other hand I have become adapted to the siesta and the leaned back life style (we do siestas 13-17 here in MDZ), and I guess we'll skip it tonight and instead I am going to start cooking some Espaghetti Especiale Bolognesa for Vanina (or is it Ines?) --- escopeta abaja, chica! -- oough that hurt -- I knew I never should have tought her to read English
--- & self real soon now, so ...
Greatings from John and the ol' gal (who isn't reading this or my life would be in danger - I once said "mujer" instead of "chica", uuuuf!).
-- Oh, no spaghetti today, Der Fuehrer's Headquarter just informed me that it is to be Estancia la Florencia.
