I've used the site to book hotels and never had any problems.

I always use booking.com. The advantage being they dont take any money from your card until you've checked in, and you can cancel upto 24 hours before check in without peanlty (except on some special offers)

Hotels.com is great, but bookit.com doesnt require you to pay inadvance. I use both, depending on the savings.
