How To Make Empanada's?

you CAN make empanadas without lard, but this is what makes them yummy and most traditional empanadas are made this way. So technically, there are no such thing as a "vegetarian" empanada (just like there is no vegan helado, it all has egg whites). The alternative would be margarine, which is probably worse for you.

Much worse. Margarine is actually plastic not food. Tests have been made leaving margarine out in the open for days, flies won't even go near it.

I think there is a puerta cerrada that does a culture and dinner thing where you drink mate and make empanadas and then you eat then as one of the courses for dinner. Maybe someone else remembers the name.

They aren't that hard to make. a two-day course would probably be a bit of an over-kill. I would try to get one of these lovely people giving you advice to come over and make them and eat them with you.

"The Argentine Experience"

While we are on the subject of 1-2 day courses of complicated things...

I'm looking for courses in:
-How to Make Hot Chocolate
-How to Drink Mate
-How to Make Pure de Papa

Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.

Or watch the recent episode of Master Chef Argentina - where the participants are asked to prepare empanadas after choosing their filling from a variety of ingredients and - wouldn't ya know it - they all made empanadas de carne. Find out about Elba y el gran problema del carozo and how Majo falló con la cocción de la masa. I can't wait for the pizza episode.

This is hilarious they all should have been sent home for lack of imagination.

I wish they had Ramsey on it.

I don't use margarine, but I've always been suspicious of the campaign against it. If you leave butter out for days, flies won't even go near it either, because it's got no carbs or protein and they have no way to digest it.

That said: pie crust with olive should be grounds for banishment.

I honestly don't know how true or false those claims are. The truth is that natural beats processed any day. Another truth is that margarine has no effect whatsoever in reducing cholesterol levels. Eating fake food to try to get away with eating unhealthy food is driving the obesity rate through the roof. Has anyone noticed that despite eating empanadas, papas fritas, fried milanesa, and ice cream like crazy, Argentina's obesity rate is CONSIDERABLY lower than what we have? Natural will always be better.

Yes olive oil for deserts - especially fruit pies is an especially poor choice. If you want a healthy choice with neutral flavor, then grape seed oil works and is produced in Argentina - no shortage of grapes...

Not true actually. Argentina's overweight/obesity rate is 69.4. US is 74.1. (Both being incredibly disturbing!) http://www.infoplease.com/world/statistics/obesity.html

To the OP - I agree. You can buy the masa premade which is the hardest part I think. Then just have fun with the filling! I need to try my hand at a batch again, I've never been quite able to get them as spicy as I would like.

Since INDEC fudges the figures, the obesity rate's probably higher than that.

I'm talking about extreme obesity and visual effects. I don't question your figures but. .. Do you not have eyes?

Other than that, the title of this thread is an eyesore
