After not having received my SS for 2 months and being notified that my bank has rejected the payments (after getting them on time every month for 17 years), I'm inundated with inscrutible forms to fill out and not sure where or to whom to send them. Can someone please recommend a savvy lawyer to guide me out of this maze? It would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!

What was the source of the forms you mentined, what information is required, and to whom must you submit them. Can you post photos of the the blank forms?

Until Monday, when I recieved the November benefit payment on time (after the October SSA payment was dedayed from Friday the third until Tuesday the seventh, I was concerned that this was happening to me. If it had, I was going to go to the Banco Macro in Punta Alta and open an account to recieve my monthly Social Security benefits directly from the SSA and then make the appropriate changes with the SSA. If you have a DNI you should be able to do the same, without a lawyer. I am not sure if the change can be made online in your "My Social Security" account or if you will need help from the SBU.

Thanks Steven, but what I need is a trustworthy lawyer (is that an oxymoron?) in CABA who can deal with US institutions.

Howdy Dim,

Unless this is a migrations issue, I would first consult with an accountant. They will be able to help fill out any bank forms for you and explain the banking issue.

I would start by asking my bank why they rejected the payments. They should be able to give you the reason, just as Schwab did for me last month when payments were delayed a few day. Having the reason for rejection should give you a direction to pursue further. The forms you mentioned, where are they from? If from the bank, ask them to explain and guide you; if from Social Security call them for assistance.

You need to call US Social Security on the phone. Which may or may not be possible due to the shutdown . No argentine lawyer is going to help. Also you should call and email the US embassy emergency services and they may be able to help. But the best thing is to call the usa ss directly, no matter how long they put you on hold.
