Is Argentina not letting its own citizens back into the country now?

El presidente de Argentina, Alberto Fernández, anunció este miércoles que por ahora quedan suspendidos los regresos al país de los argentinos o residentes en territorio nacional que se encuentran en el exterior y quieren volver en medio de la crisis global por el coronavirus

They are allowed back, just the subsidised reparation flights are cancelled. They've been going for like 2 weeks now so anyone who hasn't signed up for one probably doesn't want to come back anyway.

These days you never know, but this report by a Peruvian outlet does not sound accurate. I don’t think it’s legally possible, and it does not jive with what’s being reported.

It isn’t possible, generally speaking, to deny a citizen entry to the country. Same for permanent resident (unless stripped beforehand of that status).

What can be done - and to the best of my understanding, is now being done - is to require everyone entering the country to be quarantined. Not self isolate at home, but transported to a hotel and not permitted to leave for 14 days.

That stinks (and has resulted in people I know opting to stay abroad), but is a far cry from denying entry to citizens.

If, as rumored, Ezeiza airport is deactivated, then of course as a practical matter getting back becomes an order of magnitude harder.

No one is saying they will be denied entry.
What is being stated is that we are short of resources (a fact) and bringing people back is stressing all sorts of services that are tied to this job.
If they can return home by themselves (like the shifferbrains surfer (27YO) who drove back from Brazil) and respect the quarantine (unlike the asshat (24YO) who returned from the US went straight to a party and infected all those around him), they are welcomed home-

Saw three buses unloading people at a hotel on Juncal and Suipacha, next door to the Socorro Church. We simply can´t spare the personnel to feed them, watch them, etc.
It´s been demonstrated that you can´t allow/trust some of these people to simply get home and stay there.

Some military weapons are designed to hurt but not kill the enemy. It´s better to tie the enemy´s resources to other tasks than the actual battle.
This battle is similar. We have to spare our medical and security resources since they are our front line. Supply lines come next.

The two demoiselles now stuck at the hotel where the old man croaked today (Suipacha y Juncal), left March 10 for a 4 months trip to south east asia.
Bummer, right? Their holidays are screwed...

I call that living in a dense cloud of farts. To be young, irresponsible and dumb as shit.

My partner is waiting on the US for a flight home. His original flight was cancelled. Hopefully he should be on a flight today.
