There's one thing you're missing. Even hypothetically, if this make-believe fraud took place, it would mean that it happened under Trump's watch, and the result of his not taking measures to prevent such an occurrence when it was well within his power to allocate people and resources to that end (if he had truly believed there was a threat, which he didn't until he lost). Instead, he publicly derided intelligence reports that foreign actors might attempt to interfere with the election. Lastly, if such fraud were proven, he would still be forever known as the president that allowed the "biggest crime" in US history. So even if he wins, he loses.
Few if any of his lawsuits are even alleging "fraud," they're just citing technicalities to cherry-pick votes and delay the certification of the election. Clearly, Trump himself does not actually believe this either: if he did, the DOJ, FBI et al. would be leading the investigations, and not his personal team of ambulance-chasers. This whole circus is the equivalent of an evicted tenant leaving poop on the carpet on the way out, and sets up a narrative for his planned Trump TV platform and a potential 2024 candicacy.
Spot on, all of this.
In fact, multiple bills to beef up election security were passed by the House; they all died in the Senate, where Mitch McConnell refused to even take them up.
If there was a scintilla of evidence that fraud anywhere near the alleged scale was taking place, of course Bill Barr would be all over it, and rightly so: multiple people would be at risk of going to jail for the rest of their lives. This comes pretty close to treason.
While on camera they are screaming about fraud, in court their lawyers are taking great pains to make clear they are NOT alleging that.
Why the difference? Because making that allegation in front of a judge, absent any evidence at all, is sanctionable.
Nobody with their law license on the line is sticking their neck out for this shit.
As to your first paragraph, Trump actually tweeted out this exact absurdity.
He couldn’t decide whether he wanted to claim credit for the election or keep pushing that it was rigged. So he did both:
So: the Dems were dead wrong about worrying about the election’s security.
They were wrong. because it was actually the most secure ever.
Except it was rigged. Jiminy.
EDITED TO ADD AFTER THE LAST DERSHOWITZ VIDEO:
The only way this whole legal and media push makes any sense, is as a ploy to make sure that deep in MAGA-land this narrative remains in the future. Among people like the one who just posted this Dershowitz video.
The headline strongly implies that Dershowitz disputes in any way that Biden is president-elect, which if you waste your time and watch this video you will see is patently not true. As a careful lawyer, he says nothing more than that
if what Sidney Powell is alleging is true, that is a big deal (no shit Sherlock). At no point does he in any way allege that any of this has any basis in reality.
At any rate, Dershowitz is over by minute 3 of this 13-minute video: the grossly misleading headline is very much in the best traditions of MAGA media.
This is the target crowd for the Trump effort. Not the judges, before whom their lawyers dare not even
state the allegations. It’s about the rubes who will see a headline like this, and then either not watch at all or watch and miss the point entirely in the litany of stuff being alleged, and come away with the impression that there exists at the very least a serious dispute, where in fact there is none.
As it seems even Fox won’t abide it, that explains why Trump wants to raise OANN’s profile. The question is whether 1) there is room in American society for a full-on wacko outlet, 2) if there is - whether our society can even survive having a critical mass of people who buy into this shit.
