Been watching the RDM reports on Channel 13 about Ireland.....!! Very Good food.

Mentioned that COD is Abadejo here ? is that true? Where can one buy Fresh Abadejo ?
Similar to Icelandic Cod, white and Firm?
 
hahahahah cod is not abadejo, cod is bacalao and you will not find it fresh here.
 
I was in a bar in the Dublin hills when he arrived with the film crew, was there a section on a place called Jonny Foxes? He came with the. Tv crew, ordered a seafood platter, sipped the head of a pint, did his monologue to the camera and took off out the door. The whole time my wife was incredibly excited , frantically texting her pals here!

What did he eat and what did he drink?
 
He ordered a seafood platter that I saw, dublin bay prawns, mussels and the like. Ordered a Guinness and had a sip, there was I believe a lad in the corner playing a bit of trad on the guitar but he may not have been when Ivan the terrible was there. Might have had other stuff, seemed to be a lot on the table. At the time I was more focused on my pint than Mr IdP's!

I wain the corner with my Da, his wife, his two kids and my wife.

Pub was Jonnie Foxes, in the Dublin mountains (hills really, but hey..it is nice up there), v popular on the Dublin tourist trail, recommend i you make it over. They do a good hooley show.
 
Abadejo can mean cod or pollock, but these are pretty vague generic terms.
 
Hmm I always thought Abadejo = Haddock (is that the same of pollock?). There is so much ridiculousness when it comes to the marketing of fish it can be impossible to figure out what you are getting -- the NYT did an article about this a while ago revealing that at many restaurants what they told you you were eating and what you really were getting were two entirely different species of fish.

I think Haddock. It can sometimes refer to swordfish in Spanish, but usually in Argentina they refer to swordfish as pez espada. I think pollock and haddock are the same thing.

Here are some translations of some of the fish that are eaten here:
Mero - grouper
Merluza - hake
arenque - herring
pargo - snapper
bacalao - cod (usually)
red snapper - huachinango (most difficult to find in Argentina)
trout - trucha
vagre - catfish (I think)

If someone wants to expand on the list, that would be great.
