I swear I signed up for alerts or whatnot on the embassy website but I don't get any invites. How did you get this? I can't find any reference to it on the web site either... My country is ghosting me 😆

One of the things I admire about your country is your sense of humour. The by-election you mention is where Count Binface came second?
Ha! Thanks to some politicians determination to stick their noses in the trough, we might be rerunning that one very soon and - who knows? - maybe Binface will win this time?

I was referencing something more recent, the fight for Keir Starmer's old seat which was retained by Labour on a reduced majority and a reduced turnout and much to the embarrassment of the Greens who had been confident of taking it easily until their leader took a pratfall.

Why did they have to fight over the ex-PM's old seat? Just like David Cameron who, before the Br*x*t referendum said, whatever the outcome, I will still be PM - and promptly resigned afterwards; Starmer, after his defenestration, said he would remain on the back benches but then didn't.

(My cutting and pasting has gone awry but a definite +1 on the Father Ted!!!)

But were it Kamala you'd watch?
she is not, as far as I know, a government official. If she visited, she would not be travelling on tax dollars, nor sponsored by the embassy.
If she showed up at Niceto to see a band, I would go say hi, sure.

but official government representation is completly different from any individual opinions about a former official who is now a private citizen.

Growing up in the PNW, I was aware of the history of rodeos- starting with the famed Pendleton Roundup.
Obviously it was originally a hispanic thing, with mexican native americans figuring prominently dating back 500 years or more.
In the USA, it was an african american cowboy, Bill Pickett, who is generally acknowleged as the originator of steer wrestling and bulldogging.
by 1913, the female cowboy Tillie Baldwin became quite well known.
about a quarter of all cowboys in the more recent era- 1875 to 1920 or so- were black.
There were always a lot of north american native cowboys as well, separate from the Mexican/American spanish speaking cowboys.

So, Rodeo, historically is DEI, most likely minority majority, and woke.
I had a black employee, a very skilled welder, for several years, who rode rodeo, and had big belt buckles and trophies

Somehow I doubt it will be portrayed that way in this case.

I saw the rodeo a few times in Colorado, one thing I was told was that the 'clowns' (the guys tasked with distracting the bulls in the bull riding events when someone gets thrown, who dress in comical clothes and make physical jokes and hide in big plastic barrels) are usually bullfighters from Mexico.
That was a brutal sport; they had ambulances on standby for the inevitable broken bones. Of course the bulls were not happy either, with their privates being molested to provoke an agitated performance. Half of the score comes from the rider's performance, and half from the bull's, so a good bull is a 'star' and gets the care befitting a valuable asset. As someone who eats steaks, it never struck me as a worse bovine life than going to the slaughterhouse.
I can't imagine this rodeo would include bull-riding.
How can I sign up to see it?
