I was summoned for Jury Duty in California in the month of Nov, 2011 - I forgot that I was suppose to serve. Does anyone know what I can do to rectify this situation. I was here in BsAs and it totally slipped my mind. Can I correct this through the US Embassy?
Thanks

Hmm, not sure since you missed the date. I got summoned last year but had a family member call the courthouse and explain that I was abroad immediately and that took care of it. I was actually surprised at how simple it was. Hopefully they'll let you off the hook.

Contact the court in which you were supposed to serve. Somebody there will be able to help you more than anybody at the embassy.

If you were outside of the USA when the summons was sent you may be able to avoid the negative consequences of not showing up by telling the court that you were out of the country. Your boarding pass from your flight to Argentina as well as your entry stamp will help substantiate this argument.

"Q: What will happen if I do not respond to a jury notice?
A: Failure to report for service on the day instructed may subject you to a fine of up to $1,500. In addition, if you are qualified to serve, you will still have to complete jury duty."

"Never ignore a call for jury duty. Failure to attend jury duty can result in fines, suspension of a driver’s license, or in some cases, criminal charges (i.e. spending 24 hours in jail.)"
