The 'Partido de la Costa' is not part of Mar del Plata. El Partido de La Costa is made up the small beach towns found along la Ruta 11 in the Province of Buenos Aires.
Which towns are the best for vacationing and getting to know? Well, that depends on your budget. The closer you are to the Rio de la Plata, the less you're going to spend. Also, the browner the water. The further you get from Buenos Aires City, the clearer the water and the cleaner the sand.
For big spenders, Carilo and Mar Azul. For the middle class, Villa Gesell or Pinamar. Villa Gesell is a good option, given its shopping, nightlife, cultural events, forests, and wide beaches.
Enjoy, and have a safe trip!

Only been to Pinamar and Cariló.
Both or which are fine if overpriced for what you get.
Trying Uruguay this year.

Only been to Montevideo. The northern beaches closer to Brazil, I hear are beautiful. Have a nice time!!

all four of those towns are within 35 km of each other. Thats only one of dozens of different beach areas, from just past La Plata to waay down by Reta, or even Playas Doradas.
many many more options exist.

I tell a lie I have been to Rada Tilly.

Yeah, but I was just mentioning some of the towns in El Partido de la Costa. Mar del Plata and beyond are very different and more beautiful.

Remember that the Atlantic is cold 🥶. The brown water of Rio de la Plata is warm. I’m not sure how clean it is, maybe some member will know. Over in Uruguay it’s considered to be pretty clean and in places like Chihuahua it’s very nice to swim. We love Mar de las Pampa’s, but it’s expensive, omigod, maybe later on this year.

I wouldn't swim in the Rio de la Plata, which is in fact, not a river, but a estuary. The water looks brown because of the sediment below. Mar de las Pampas is beautiful. Enjoy the summer!!

I don’t find the sea on the Costa too bad.

Except when there’s those tiny jellyfish in there that find their way into your private parts.

It's nice. Windy and gloomy in winter. Not for everyone. Small towns by the beach have changed. Lots of nice places to visit, a couple good ones to live in. Good option for those in search of a simple life, for at least six months out the year.
