Caballa is Mackeral . Corvina is Drum. Bagre is catfish.Pati , surubi , pacu , are all types of catfish. Merluza is hake. And its used in other parts of the world primarily in making Kanikama.

Whats pejerey ?translated into english

Also keep in mind provenance. Some are from sea, and they will have far less fat content than river fish. Mero, corvina, caballa, besugo are from sea. Bagre, pati, surubi, pacu, dorado are all from river. These later are great for grilling, and I have been in carritos near Rosario where they were the thing to order.

Pejerrey doesnt have a northern hemisphere comercial translation.
This is pretty much what i do to divine fish names and cut thru the worldwide local confusion on fish names.
If its about an argentine fish , i search it in wikipedia panish. There i copy its clasification , and i paste it to the english wikipedia.
Its been quite helpfull , although somewhat convoluted a procedure to divine actual translations
Hope it helps

Does anyone know if crabmeat is commercialised here in argentina ? i dont mean for export. Is it available here as a native product ?
Aldo , the river crabs , are they edible ?
