Macri Opportunism: Wants To Enact Law To Protect Clarin

What you have said about Clarín may very well be accurate. But, if you are pig sitting in the middle of a pig pen with a bunch of other pigs you can't accuse all of the other pigs of stinking up the place. Clarín may be maffioso, but it's the only press that speaks out against the government because Cristina bought all of the others. I'd prefer to have at least one paper that is opposition than none even if it is corrupt. The alternative is much, much worse.

I agree that to have a healthy democracy you need press from both side, officialist and opositores, but the problem is how and why.
There is not such thing as "opinions". Thre is a corporate line journalists must follow. hey re writing because the heads of the corporation is against the government because they didnt solve some bussiness they used to have in common. Its very evident the way they turned round in 2007 while before that they were extremely kirchneristas.
So the main reason why they are opposiition is because of some bussiness they had toghether with the government didint work out. So opinions certainly doesnt exist. Or they are very volatile.

About the how, what I read from Clarin, the main critiques, the basis that they have in this huge campaign, is always revolving about one big reason, and its not about their political decisions, is not against asignacion universal or against subsidios or agiants YPF nationalization, is against corruption. Thats the main argument this government has from the oposition or from Clarin (just listen to Lanata, maybe the encarnation of what anti-K people think, and 90% of his shows are about corruption).
And yes, corruption is very present in this government, as it is in Netherlands or India in 1996 or 1874. I mean, corruption you have it everywhere, everytime. So its a pretty empty argument, its not something that this governement can change, its not something easy to change, it obbeys to a cultural matter, and the solution is only by education, and in the long term.

So theres not the idea that Clarin represents some ideas, or policies, or even politicla parties. As they re very fragmented, they just have to criticize from general things like corruption, and not because they think that way, they only care about money, that is all about, no ideas, nothing. Money. Conserve the monopoly they have.

At least at the moment you can flip back and forther between C5N/Canal 9 / Television Publica and TN et alia -- if Clarin goes down, there's not going to be much voice of opposition.

Heresy!!!

How can you even speak at least a bit positively in any way of the Super Democratic Order-Threatening, Immensely Powerful and Guilty of Everything Grupo Clarin???? I respect everyone's opinions, but that's SO stupid, you just have to be a foreigner to able to write such complete nonsense.

I completely agree with the well-researched, sound and balanced epistles of Bajo_cero2 on this issue:

Pathetic!
Corrupt!

and I don't think any of this applies to the humble national government, that keeps surviving many undemocratic threats in spite of not being able to rely on any positive coverage in whatever channel/newspaper whatsoever.

So you see no educational value in Lanata bringing corruption to the foreground?? You don't think this is an educational moment? And by that respect, that 678 is ALSO making corruption a huge topic? You don't see this at all as a good thing, regardless of the motives.

You say it is not something this govt can change -- well, frankly, from their behaviours it is self-evident that they do not want that to change since they are profiting hugely from corruption. You cannot deny it, even if you are the proudest K supporter in the world, it is obvious that they have been profiting hugely, illegally, from corrupt activities.

The good thing is coming of this are all of the testimonials coming forth. With luck maybe the lightbulb will actually turn on for a few more people. The bad, corrupt thing, is still coming down the line, from the Kirchner govt, when they ensure that they find themselves a good fall guy and that guy is the one and only that goes to prison, and the rest of them get off scott free.

My comments weren't only about the US. I said, "... and many other countries..." I happen to be a citizen of the US and so that's my reference point for political and economic topics. I think it would be beneficial to hear from other people's experiences as well.
It's just a bit of a remarkable thing that in a couple of threads that are similar to this one, people suddenly start discussing US issues, completely out of the blue, and some of these people completely forget that the original discussion focused on something that is happening in Argentina. I don't see anything wrong in trying to find similarities regarding a certain problem in a different country, but sometimes the relevance vanishes por completo.

It's good for anyone to involve his or her personal reference point and I always enjoy your posts, and I think especially you never steer away too much from a discussion, but it's just a general phenomenon here that I find quite curious.

I must say you are extremely skilled at articulating the deeper origins of the problems in this country.

Grupo Clarin certainly has a questionable reputation and nobody here would ignore the dirty games they have been playing in the past. For that matter, I am much more an admirer of Perfil which is genuinely meant as a truly critical voice in this society. However, I think you greatly underrestimate the current threat to democracy in Argentina, and I tolerate Clarin because I am truly afraid that the pura basura that is in power right now will be able to establish a monopoly in what people have to say and even think. This ridiculous situation is a starting point for even less mutual understanding in this completely politically ill society (Viva Peron!!!1111). I am sorry, but your glossing-over of government corruption makes absolutely no sense to me. You keep repeating this argument and this way of thinking is one of the reasons why you Argentines get one after the other corrupt government in power here, which will never lead to anything.

Clarín may have its shortcomings, but it's at least an independent voice in a country whose governments have a history of silencing or at least shouting down independent analysis.
