Macri Opportunism: Wants To Enact Law To Protect Clarin

He claims to be an expert in constitutional law. He obviously bought his law degree at Coto. And he thinks that we're really, really stupid.

Hay muchos abogados exitosos en la Argentina, obviamente.

Number of ex-pats Bajo Cero has converted to kirchnerismo:

According to the INDEC: 100,000
Actual number: 0

Meh. I appreciate reading Bajo Cero's views. Whilst I don't necessarily agree with them, he at least engages with people.

It's refreshing to hear from people who aren't afraid to disagree with the majority. And having only spent five years in Argentina, I appreciate reading the opinions of people who have lived here their whole lives - people who lived through a dictatorship and the aftermath, hyperinflation, economic collapse and a succession of corrupt, weak, and incompetent governments.

You don't have to agree with someone to value their contribution. This forum would be a fucking dull place if all it had to offer were posts bitching about pizza, the lack of peanut butter and shocking revelations which reveal that Argentina is more corrupt and incompetent than the affluent, institutionally stable first world nations.

No, you don't have to agree with someone to value his/her contribution.

But someone who simply spews ridiculous, unsupportable lies is not contributing anything. Especially when those lies are contributing to the suffering of 40 million innocent people, and putting their lives, their futures and the futures of their children in jeopardy. As foreigners, if things get too bad here, we can just go home. They can't. I have an Argentine wife. She could go with me, but her family can't.

If it were your country being destroyed and converted into a dictatorship, perhaps you'd have a different perspective.

P.S. I don't think someone who insults everyone who disagrees with him is "engaging with them." And I'm certainly not interested in "engaging with" someone like that.

Bajo, I was not just referring to internal legal experts, but also external. As I have said before, Individual Liberties/Rights Groups have already condemned the amendments, and no its not a conspiracy lead by the IMF.

You still havent showed me how its going to improve democracy & independence.

My last comment was a joke. But not so much, being able to hire and fire as they wish means the judges (and the judiciary) will merely be political puppets.

Dont you think at all it isnt un conflicto de interes? Se entiende no?? Especially given all the investigations currently ongoing with respect to the Ks and their corruption, the timing is certainly convenient anyway.

On a side note, I dont believe you are not a K, who did you vote for at the last election?

I am waiting impatiently for Bajo_cero2's replies

If you'd lived through a dictatorship, and had experienced economic destruction first hand perhaps you'd have a different perspective.

Some people prefer child rapists to the Kirchners, compare them to Hitler and believe they are the worst thing to have ever happened to Argentina. Others think they're a mild improvement on a succession of butchers, bunglers, crooks and incompetents.

Room for all perspective no?

True JP, however that perspective should definitely include the possibility to not be governed by another perpetuator of cyclical boom to bust Argentina. There is another way outside of the govt of temporary fixes and self-enrichment.

15 years ago we might have been sat here saying Menem is a crook but at least he isn´t throwing people out of planes who disagree with him. That shouldn´t then have been the limit of hope then anymore than paranoid populist protectionism be the limit of hope today.

No room for that kind of perspective here. My wife did live through the dictatorship. She (and the hundreds of other people I know here) have no interest in living through another one. They have lived through several other periods of economic destruction. They're very angry about this one.

jp, your characterization of the population's perspective on the current situation (Some people prefer... Others think...) is disingenuous.

It would be much more accurate to say "The overwhelming majority of people prefer... A small, self-interested minority think..."

I think your perspective needs some serious retooling.
