Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and thought I would ask for some helpful advice. I'm about to get married to my Argentinian girlfriend, and it is likely we will be moving to BA for a couple of years, starting sometime next year. I may or may not be working while I am in BA (I'm fortunate that I don't need to, but I will probably do some consulting anyway), so I'm not really concerned about finding a job; getting paid in pesos; etc. However, I do need some advice on money management while we are in BA. My girlfriend owns an apartment in BA, so we have a place to live. We obviously have US bank accounts ( and my girlfriend has a bank account in BA, but doesn't really use it much). I'm trying to get a sense of how I should manage money/living expenses while we are in BA. Based upon what I have read on this forum, it seems that I don't really want to utilize my US bank ATM card to withdraw cash because of the terrible exchange rate (same with using US credit cards, I suppose). It also seems like I will need to utilize a combination of XOOM (or some similar service) to obtain pesos, and/or going to Uruguay to withdraw dollars and then exchange at the blue rate for pesos. I'm wondering if anyone has any other advice about general money management, credit cards, etc. for someone in my situation. I would expect to bring some dollars with me (and keep in a safe deposit box), but not sure how many I will want (or be able to) bring into the country. A few other items of information for your advice - I will have a DNI; I will probably be going back to the US every 4-6 months to visit family; my money needs will primarily be for general living expenses - food; entertainment; perhaps a few utilities.
I'm pretty excited about coming to BA, and appreciate your advice.
