Milei Won. He is the new President of Argentina.

Milei could be a disaster. Massa proved he was a disaster. Only time will tell.

Either way, it will probably be a rocky 4 years with protests, road blocks, etc from the Peronista machine.
You do not know what a disaster means in Argentina. Massa was Ok. Not bad, not good but nobody’s life was in risk. I only hope there will be not forced disappearences.

I think Milei's presidency will be a disaster (I didn't want either to be president) so my only hope is that I am incredibly wrong. I want Argentina to succeed, I want people to stop talking about Ezeiza being the answer, I want kids to plan their future living here. While I don't think this will be the case, I await the first reforms, and as much as I dislike him/his agenda, I do think some things need to change, such as the cepo/black market for dollars, etc. which just hurt the country's ability to collect taxes to pay for services we all need and use.
Quil, you got that backward. The problem is the BNA dollar being controlled by the gov't at an artificially low rate. The blue dollar is just a symptom

Please. This is not the early 1970s with left wing terrorists like the Montoneros running around setting off bombs and executing people and other terrorist acts which provided a pretext for the Argentine military coup. Have you looked at the state of the Argentine military laterly? They likely could not resist should the Falklands decide to invade and take Tierre del Fuego in a sick revenge fantasy. Argentina has a solid 40 years of democratic and legitimate rule and constitutional order. The hyperbole.

Tell me this man is not on drugs. Tell me he doesn't remind you of a certain Austrian housepainter with a funny little moustache.

I'm afraid I see no similarity. The German architect of the holocaust and the bloodbath that was WWII was a teetotler vegetarian who despite his ranting mass rallies, tended to present himself in a very restrained manner at most times, highly psychopathic to be sure. Hitler did share with Milei a love of dogs, but that's as far as I can see the comparison. So I see that comparison as hyperbole as well. If you know any history as to how Hitler siezed power, although not having a majority of the seats in the Reichstag, the Nazis were the largest party by a significant margin. Milei has no such power base in Argentina's institutional system of checks and balances, the Congress and the Senate. He remains dependendent on other parties/ forces if he wants to pass any serious reforms. And it is not clear to me that he can rely on those parts of Together for Change that consider themselves more centrist. In fact they are saying they will act as a responsible opposition.

No. That Austrian housepainter was a socialist from a workers party. "Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei".
And that Austrian housepainter was also a racist.

Perhaps those who see similarities are on some pretty good stuff themselves...
